Purchased premium to do some hiking in Colorado while on vacation. My wife used AllTrails (free). Comparing the two, Gaia failed looking up all hikes but one. You do get a map to download to help guide you but don’t expect this app to help you find trials. I will use the overlanding soon and provide an update. I will compare against OnX.
I’ve enjoyed having Gaia on my Android and have used it often, and it’s the most functional GPS app I’ve come across (though I’ve not yet tried Onyx and similar hunting and fishing apps that my friends swear by). I was recently in Tanzania in east Africa, and thus my phone was necessarily in airplane mode. However, using the app upgrade I was able to acces satellites and thus constantly see via my location as well as (and importantly) land features that informed about particular landscapes while we were sightseeing. I strongly vouch for Gaia and will continue to use it on my phone. And I quite like the feature - which I use at home in Michigan - that identifies public land parcels, which is necessary for the kind of work and the personal recreation I do.
This app had been great for the couple years I’ve had it with a premium subscription until now. Recently it’s become unusable without cell coverage. The app freezes right after opening and won’t respond at all. I try to load downloaded maps with no success since the app is locked up. This is disappointing. I hope the developers fix this. I’ll renew if it’s addressed otherwise I’ll move on to a different app. Like others have said it’s dangerous to be out miles with no cell coverage and no maps.
Tried using app and it requires me to create an account. When I try to use my yahoo email address, it gives me an error stating invalid email.
This app used to rock. Now all it does is crash and it won’t validate my email anytime I try to sign in, regardless of what email I use. Waste of money.
