I haven’t needed the app and a couple of times my spouse has received a text when I didn’t realize I’d sent it, but that’s been over a period of a couple of years. I don’t have an Google Watch or wearable device, but I love all the information the app provides such as locations of hospitals, etc., and the important numbers I would need in the case of an emergency that I might forget if in crisis. I don’t look for this to be my lifeline or feel a false sense of security having the app, but I love having it on my home screen as a starting point if I’m faced with an emergency.
I tested the features and they work fine! I can see the purpose and usefulness of this in this age of active shooters, global travels, and language barriers. I Installed on kids phones and taught them how to use it to communicate without whispering. Hope they never have to use it!
I had taught my 5 & 7 year old to rely on this app in case of an emergency. I initially tested it and it worked. I tested it again the other day and I was the only one to receive a text. Their mom and grandma are set to receive emails and they didn't send. This is an app that if used, should work. We're talking lives at stake. All it does is send a text and it was scary to think if I was incapacitated in some way and the kids could only get to this Mobile, there would be no help. It's like jumping out of a plane thinking you have a parachute, when you don't. I'm deleting the app for sure. I'm a bit freaked out about what could have happened. I have other ways for the kids to call for help, but this was one I expected to work.
I had this App and the companion Pebble watch app installed so that if there was an emergency, I could trigger a 911 phone call from my watch. Well the watch app disappeared one day after an update, leaving me with no reason for having this app. What bothers me is that this app was working fine with my Pebble until one day when the app was removed. I was never notified. Taking away a life saving feature from an app is a pretty serious change. The fact that this company seemed ok with making such a radical change to their app without clearly notifying their users that they won't be able to use it the same way, indicates that this company simply can not be trusted. When we install app, especially ones that are only designed for use in an emergency, we need to trust that these apps will actually work when we need them to. I'm feel glad that I found out about this broken app before I actually needed to use it. But I'm bothered thinking about all of the other Pebble watch users who think they have this app installed on their phone, and won't discover it stopped working until they need to use it.
My Hubby is in the last stages of Alzheimer's. While in a close-by Big City, stopped at a place I wanted to go, Hubby had an "anger flare up" where he threatened to kill me, then himself with his knife. I used this to call 911. Hubby seemed to have calmed down, so I told the 911 operator not to come, fearing a confrontation. This app texted Daughter. I was able to drive Hubby home while she arranged to have my County Sheriff pull into driveway the moment I was home & safely in the house. Hubby was calmly taken to the hospital in an ambulance. This app prevented at least an angry confrontation with City Police. Probably much more.
