I have edited/moved my digital photos so many times I cannot count on the standard EXIF info in many programs (or File Info) for an accurate file creation date. In this handy app, I can drag a photo onto the app screen, select EXIF info and see the Date Time Digitized under EXIF Properties.
This useful EXIF reader notably includes Picture Style that reports film simulation, saturation, and sharpness settings used on jpegs, at least from Fujifilm cameras. Photoshop as well as most other EXIF readers don’t include information about film simulation. Rather inconveniently, Exposure Time is reported as in decimal seconds in EXIF Properties, rather than as fractions of a second. Both formats should be reported or, at least, the user should be given the option as to which one to use. In version 1.50 of Any File Info, there are no user settable preferences for the app.
I really like whay this tool provides details on. It reads all GPS info as well as EXIF data and specs. Keep in mind that this is reading the info that is in the file. If this data has previously been stripped, it won’t bring that back. I was on a plane from NY to FL and took pictures. It showed the exact location of the plane in coordinates as well as altitude and speed. That was very cool to see all of that data.
I installed twice and it doesn’t work. It shows the same screen no matter what zip archive you try to open: hash values and no preview - no description of files, no EXIF. A waste of money.
Does exactly what it claims. A very handy tool. The only thing I found surprising was that a photo that had been modified in any way has lost its EXIF information. I thought the EXIF info “stuck” to the photo or file permanently. After researching EXIF versus JFIF I have a better understanding of what is happening. Does anyone know how to recover the true date and time of a photo after it has been edited and is now in the JFIF format and therefore lost its original date?
