1000 OpenType Fonts - Commercial Use Fonts Reviews

    • NOT WORTH THE MONEY

It should be illigal to take maybe 20 fonts and repeat them over and over again at different sizes and call it 1000 fonts. What is more of a crime is that this is just yet another app that has mislead me and stole my money.

    • Very useable with lots of choices

I've used and loved the font selections from this company in other packages. I was afraid I would run into a lot of duplicates from other offerings but I did not. Look at the examples and see if there are some that you can use for a project. If you find one font in the examples above, it's worth the price. Since I do a lot of advertising work, some of the more bizarre ones from the first screen shot showing samples of the font usually work great for me. I have nearly 10,000 fonts, including ones from professionaly foundries where I've paid $60 for a single family. In short, these are a great value and I've never had a font failure. Kind of surprised by an earlier review that says the fonts are crippled for the lack of oblique case. The author of that review obviously know his stuff when it comes to fonts, but most of the selections here are "families" and DO include oblique case (italics). I've read other reviews of fonts packages that give one-star reviews because "I can’t open them." Never had that problem. Open the font package from your applications folder (or Launchpad) and follow the on screen instructions.

    • Nothing special.

There's a couple of decent offerings in here, but many of the fonts included in this package are either just plain ugly (pro tip: script and handwriting fonts almost never look good) or straight rip-offs of existing fonts (Lost Horizon in particular sticks out as a blatant attempt to copy Handel Gothic, best known as the Mass Effect logo font). Additionally, most of the otherwise-decent offerings are crippled by their lack of a proper oblique case. For non-typographers: Italicizing a font without a dedicated italic or oblique case simply slants the existing font and usually doesn't look very good. Fonts with dedicated oblique cases, on the other hand, use an entirely separate character set that was designed to look good when italicized. If you want to see this at work, load up your word processor, write a few sentences in Baskerville, then italicize them and pay close attention to the differences in the letters. They should look considerably curlier than in their standard case. While most of these probably shouldn't see the light of day, there's a few that might have some use, and for a $2 price tag, they're worth it. Some of the included blackletter fonts are decent, and some of the monospace fonts might be useful for programmers looking for something a bit easier on their eyes than Google's defaults (although I doubt the ones in this package will unseat fonts like Anonymous Pro or Inconsolata as my favorite work fonts). Headline 37 is a perfectly serviceable French clarendon (read: Old West Style) font. Still, a dollar's a dollar, and if money's tight and you don't have anything that you absolutely need That One Specific Font for, I'd give this a pass.
