This app is not fully functional in Catalina.
Rather expensive for what it does, and there are definitely some things that could be improved. That said, it does work and I've been unable to find any other app that allows easy access & creation of gists from the menu bar.
Overall I think this app is pretty good and definitely is useful. The one caveat I have is that when clicking the icon on a secondary desktop monitor, the app renders the window on the wrong monitor (or not at all).
I use this to access code snippets for web development. GistPal syncs your Gists automatically and references them locally, which means it can search the contents of your Gists. You can also browse, and it displays the contents right there in the window. It also handles multiple-file Gists very nicely, displaying them clearly in the window and keeping them separated when copy/pasting. But the thing that blew me away is that I reported a few little bugs and some feature requests to the developer, and got a response right away. Within a few weeks, the changes I requested showed up in an update. Seriously amazing. I’m glad to support this handy little app, and look forward to seeing it grow.
First I have to say that of all the things GitHub gets wonderfully right, gists are the one thing I find a pain there. They are hard to manage and hard to find. It’s the first part that mostly bothers me, as I create a lot of gists and find it hard to keep track of them. So I’ve tried several apps for gist management apps, and GistPal is the one that really gets it right. Even if I didn’t really need it, I’d want it. Here are the pros as I see them: 1. sits in the menu bar - I don’t have to go looking for it 2. log in using regular GitHub credentials, and it remembers you forever 3. easy to create, edit and update gists 4. easy to search for gists 5. do everything you need to do with gists without ever going to Github: create them, edit them, update them, get the embed code, link to them, etc… If you don’t believe me, get this one, and get a couple of the other gist management apps. and see how much better GistPal is.
