I’ve used Like a Local in Madrid, Naples, Cagliari, Rome, London... in every case, I find something or someone interesting and amazing, off the tourist radar. I even made friends with a guide! Before I travel, I first plug in my city on this app. Love it!
The developers allow a user to post that black people are somehow genetically predisposed to understanding fried chicken. When notified, the developers claim they have no control over what’s posted on THEIR app, and leaves it to users to police each other.
This little app is powerful! It has great secret tips and free information on cities around the globe. I use it every time I travel. Budapest, Vienna, Prague, Ho Chi Minh are all worth it!
I love the idea of local-submitted listings and offline use, but many listings in my own city, Disneyland and Universal Studios for example, don’t meet my criteria for “non-touristy”, so I don’t really trust the listings in other cities either. I downloaded the app because I wanted to feel like I was getting some insider knowledge when I travel, so it’s disappointing to see sites that are literally among the world’s top tourist attractions listed. Needs some kind of stronger criteria.
I actually do like the website and think it’s handy... but as far as the APP rating in itself, is much lower. I’m traveling to Mexico soon and there’s a limited list of cities on the app. I can find everything on the desktop website but not on the app. There’s only 68 cities worldwide on the app and when I explore, I can’t find a way back into the main menu so have to close the app on my phone and re-open to get to main menu. Still have to go to the website to find what I want though. The website in itself would be a much higher rating but...app is not recommended. Please update the app to include all cities in your main database! My home (the capitol of Texas) isn’t even on there, even though I’ve left multiple recommendations on the actual desktop website, trying to help others- thinking it would even show up on the app...but it doesn’t.
