    Everand: Ebooks and audiobooks Reviews

    • Make a higher limit for children’s books

I want to love Scribd but the reading limit is too much. Especially if I read my kids picture books from the app. One night of reading kids books and our limit is reached. Children’s books are so short that I feel they shouldn’t effect your limit as much. I wish scribd was more clear on what the limit actually is and how many books we have left available to read.

    • 2x speed cap

would have no issues with the content cap if you could listen at 2.5-3x speed. Mostly want to use to supplement what is available at my library but it is TORTUROUS to listen to some of these books at 2x…

    • Shady, plus not blind friendly.

I got the free trial version of this service and decided to get a one month subscription after my trial ended. At first everything was great, but then I started noticing some shady activity. Apparently if you download several audiobooks but don’t start listening to them right away these titles magically become “unavailable“ after a few days. But no worries, I’m assured that these titles will become available once again conveniently 2 days after my subscription is due to expire (thereby forcing me to renew my paid subscription for another month if I want to listen to these titles). If this happened to only one or two titles then I would understand, but after this happening to five separate titles/authors over the month it’s obvious what they are doing. Also as a blind person I find this app very hard to use. I have several audiobook apps on my Android (Bard, Hoopla, Libby, Google Books, etc.) which I have no problems using whatsoever being blind, but this app is definitely not blind friendly. For example: if you want to generate a list of all Stephen King audiobooks you have to wait for the voiceover to read the entire biography of his and then hit the “view all“ button just at the right moment when your voiceover reads it. If you don’t hit the button just at the exact moment then you have to listen to Stephen King’s entire biography again and then hope you hit that button at the exact moment otherwise you have to start all over again… This becomes very frustrating. I know making this app more accessible to your blind customers probably isn’t at the top of your list of priorities, but just know that us in the blind & visually impaired communities listen to A LOT of audiobooks. You’re definitely missing out on this revenue stream from our community due to your app not being accessible to us. But no worries, we’ll just spend our money with other audiobook apps that are more accessible to us.

    • Scribd will throttle your usage

Scribd is great sometimes, some months there will be so many great books that it’s hard to pick what to read or listen to first. However, you should know that some months it’s also going to be almost useless. You know how with cell phone plans they will tell you that you have unlimited data, but then they massively slow down the speeds after you get to a certain amount of gigs used? Scribd is like this with its catalog. This month the main options I have available to me are old books with expired copyright, random unknowns, and Scribd originals. I have the ability to see that some books I want to listen to are on Scribd, but they are not available to me until the first of next month. I just paid this month’s bill cycle but now I’m going to get pretty much no usage out of it because I don’t have the option to read any of the more popular selections. Sometimes it’s worth the $10 per month and more so it’s not really enough to get me to cancel my subscription but it sure is frustrating, especially since I just paid for this month and I know that I won’t be able to get much use out of it despite having paid. If Scribd were more transparent about this then it might be less frustrating.

    • Love this app

I have had this app for several months. At first I couldn’t find a lot of audiobooks that I was interested in, but their selection has vastly improved. They have almost every book I search for. And unlike audible I do not have to pay extra it’s all included. My only gripe or suggestion is the listening speed. I like to listen to my books mostly at 1.3 speed which audible does offer. This app goes from 1.2 to 1.5. 1.2 is ok but sometimes too slow but 1.5 is too fast. It would be great if you would offer any speed from 1.0 to 3.0. Other than that small complaint it is great.
