The app is mostly great, however, if you are actually interested in ID work on the app, it doesn’t have the functionality of the website, which is ridiculous. Every time I identify anything, I am unable to see that observation again unless i search for it on the map, and every time anyone comments on an ID, I have to look at the email iNat sends me, find the location of the observation, and find the point again to respond. Adding a messages tab or an activity tab on the app can’t be that difficult. Most people who are observing are taking photos with their smartphone, so why is the version designed for that smartphone inferior to the actual website?
I love the scientific community aspect , plus I personally find it very useful for plant ID. I highly recommend it. Best tips are getting clear full images of your specimens from multiple angles whenever possible ! Great for plant and animal lovers ! Casual or scientific interest! All levels welcome … it is great to feel I am contributing to a map that is updated live to show what species are spotted near me. I learn a lot !
Super easy to use, and wayyyyyyy more accurate than other apps that offer the same experience! 10/10 recommend, tell your friends and mother!
iNaturalist and it’s companion Seek are my two favorite apps in existence. They are delightful and easy to use. Only kind of media I need in my life.
Love this community of skilled naturalists who help me with IDing the native plants and animals, as well as the invasive species! Thank you iNat!! The only thing I would suggest for the app is that I wish I could have a search function for my observations, so that if I want to find all my observations of a certain species or genus, or want to find a specific observation from two years ago, I don’t have to just scroll through them all. That would be a nice feature!
