This app is REALLY convenient! I can compose scraps of content for email, messages, my blog or whatever as ideas flow into my head. I can clean them up later and use them in the appropriate place. Just one problem — a bug that should be fixable. I find it impossible to select a portion of text on my Android 11 Pro (newest iOS) without Drafts wanting to expand wildly back & forth beyond the words I want to select. So cutting & pasting to a different spot is not possible. The best I can do is place the cursor at one point and delete text character by character, then place my cursor at the new location and retype the deleted text from memory. To avoid this problem I sometimes go do it on my Android instead, but it should be possible on the Android. Fix this & Drafts will be a slam dunk 5 stars.
I needed a simple text editor that could reliably open files from the share sheet. I tried a bunch before Drafts but they were all buggy/unreliable or you had to pay a subscription just to open files. Drafts is a good straightforward text editor and I haven’t had any major issues so far. My main complaint is that the navigation bar, tags bar, and toolbar take up wayyy too much space in landscape mode. It doesn’t help that “tags” bar that takes up the full width of the screen but I never plan on using tags, so it’s just a ton of wasted blank space. I wish there was some way to hide everything and just view the text content. Also, word wrap is always on, and lines that are indented don’t stay indented when they wrap over to the next line, so source code files are a real ugly mess. At least you can customize the font size and use a mono space font, so it’s not too terribly unreadable.
Just opened my first txt file to tryout this app, I can not find the change encoding option inside the app, i tried about 20 min to find the option, but not a trace, and no help menu either. Which means I can not read or edit anything at all.
I’ve used Drafts for years in almost every iteration. If there is a huge gaping flaw, and there is, it is that there is no undo function. One set if missed keystrokes, and everything is lost. Will we ever see a useful undo?
Overall I really like this app and want to use it more but the lack of support for a Windows version or Web version that could be accessed from a Windows PC is the main drawback. Hopefully the developers will add this functionality so the app could become even more of a core piece to my productivity stack.
