    Bear: Markdown Notes Reviews

    • excellent app for writing and reading and managing text

This app is for writing and reading. I use it to store ancinet prayers. I then put links to those entries in bear into omnifocus. It opens fast and clean, looks eligant and is easy to read. other apps allow for fancy formatting, but if you want test displayed clearly and quickly, if you want lightning fast sync between all your devices and if you want solid markdown, then bear is the answer. I love it and use it every day. Bear uses tags and not folders or notbooks. This kinda works like gmail. all my notes are in the same book divided by tags. Multiple tags make this easy to find and catagorize notes. search is super fast. It works great in slide over and split screen on my Mobile. test flows and looks great and is ALWAYS easy to read. I cannot use Google notes because it is very cumbersome to link to a specific note. it can be done, but not easy. and the interface is just clunky. it looks bad. Thank you for bear.

    • Beautiful, but...

One of the most beautiful notes apps you can find, but visual syntax is unncessary and a scar on the beaitufl interface. I know some people love markdown, but I can't imagine anyone loves the way it looks. Can you please give us an option to at least hide the syntax for a clean editor experience?

    • The Leader on Apple Devices for Notes

I've been using Bear for about two years as my primary note taking app. I also use it as a digital file cabinet, storing receipts and personal information that I think I want to have accessible on my Android and Mobile. For these purposes Bear really excels. In the past I was a heavy Evernote user. I was looking for something that could repalce evernote after their "enhancements' complicated the interface, and slowed the app the down. I had about 4000 notes there. Moving to Bear was a bit of learning curve. It took me awhile get my head around tags vs files. Truth is I stopped using it a couple times along the way because I had so many tags it seems pretty messy. Once I got comfortable with tags and started aggressively nest tags, I had an aha moment. I know have about 2000 notes in Bear. If find that finding old notes is much faster here, even if I didn't have the correct tags. I also appreciate the markdown editor. I don't think I would use Bear big writing projects, there are better apps specifically focused on that capability, but for blurbs, quick emails that I want to edit etc, it works great. It has become my goto app for notes and for keep track of stuff like images and documents that i want store confidently.

    • Love the app

Been a user for a few years now and have found it to be the best general purpose note taking app, especially on the fly. I would love to see document scanning capabilities in future releases!

    • Great app, but....

I've been a paid user for a few years, and mostly loved it for its speed, simplicity, stability and attractive interface. So why did I go back to Google notes? I need tables for one of my most important uses - music chord charts - and Bear doesn't have them, Google Notes does. Also: while all the themes are very pretty, I find notes hard to read on my Android; something about the format lacks the clarity I see in Google Notes. Organization by tags instead of folders is nice, once you get the hang of it - it's very flexible - but it wasn't a huge plus for me. All in all: a very well designed, attractive app that will be great for many users, but lacks a critical feature I need.
