TextLab replaced all my online and offline apps for formatting, cleaning and tranformations.
Program did mostly what we needed except for a subtlety in the conversion. We contacted the dev and he was very willing to help identify and correct the issue. Highly recommended.
This does a great job of cleaning and formatting JSON, XML and other text-based formats before using my texteditor of choice.
It’s a nice little developer’s app. But I was reminded I had it when I went to go check the default app on an XML file. TextLab had hyjacked the XML File type and likely many more file extension associations too. JSON has been hijacked too, and I can bet I can keep listing them. As a developer, I have my ways. Having some App come by and have the odasity to go change the file associations is low class. If I want TextLab to be a default I CAN CHANGE IT MYSELF EXTRODINARILY EASILY. This revelation has really changed my mind on the quality of this App. If it wern’t outright garbage, why would they dare change all the defaults? THe last App I had that did this was classified Malware and widely deleted. If TextLab is the only program you ever intend on using, maybe this hyjacking of all the File Types is okay, for real developers that use real tools and have real experience, this App is really an insult. I’d rather not delete TextLab as the first option so we’ll see if the associations get left alone in the next update, or if I need to delete this App for being lousy pushy Malware.
This application is fantastic and is a bargain at $8.99. It allows me to test and validate a wide variety of formats. I regularly work with JSON, XML, CSV and Base64 data as well as encoded URLs. TextLab handles all of them with ease. The exported files even save the human readable formatting. The bonus of being able to generate hashes for testing is another time saver.
