This would be an awesome program if it actually worked, but unfortunately, it crashes whenever I attempt to export recognized text as either a text document, a rich-text document, or a Microsoft Word document. I did try the workaround that another reviewer suggested, where you open a PDF in Preview and then export it as a PDF document prior to importing. Unfortunately, that didn’t work, either. The program seems to do a good job of recognizing text, but attempting to export it is where it all falls apart. The good news is that this version is free. I would gladly buy a paid version if the constant crashes were fixed.
I'm not a "techie" and found the instructions kinda difficult to understand. But after playing around with it for a bit I was able to convert my 33 page scanned pdf to text. I'd tried using Automator and it worked fine just not on my scanned document. I'll have to clean it up a bit but that's a small chore compared to re-typing the entire pdf! I now have the pdf converted to text for free! Apparently their recent update was the charm. Awesome! Thank you LEADTOOLS SKD!!!
There are a lot of errors when converting an image to text, also once the text is converted there is no way to copy the converted text. I have 6 other programs (won't get into that here) that I use to get OCR, each with different functions (I wish they were all in one app) and I've found this app's ocr to be not very good.
This application was the only one without in app purchases that could open my document with docx! I'm so glad I found this app. I'm a freshman in high school and I couldn't afford to pay a yearly subscription to convert files.
Working with people who sometimes barely understand how to use word processing software, getting them to e-mail said file is pretty much an impossibility. Often times, they'll print said document out and send a pic. That said, amont free OCR software, this one is great to use in a pinch. I've found that recognition is ~80%, and that's with skewed images with some handwriting on them. Just like with all OCR software, though, it's best to proof the output. Would I use this if I was OCRing dozens of images at once and want high accuracy? Probably not. Would I use this if I was OCRing 10-ish images and want high accuracy? Most likely.
