Mapstr, save & share places Reviews

    • Good With Potential!

I am a long time Rego user - but it appears that Rego is now barely being maintained anymore so I found Mapstr and have moved all my locations to it. Overall a very good app with some remaining opportunities. * True backup data (export is not enough) * Do not require address for locations added with coordinates. * Allow me to add via coordinates (using current location) without cell connection - I am often “off grid” doing photography or other activity and need to be able to save a location. * Share only locations tied to a tag - I am not interested in sharing all locations with anyone. * Easily switch between map and satellite on map view. I keep having to go to google maps satellite to confirm location image. Just some initial thoughts - will continue to send others as a solid app for saving locations is a key part of enabling my adventures! Keep up the good work! Sebastian & Team you have been wonderful to work with. I am only trying to do my best to make your app as good as possible by providing the best input I have - thanks for your partnership!

    • Evolving towards bloat

When I first found Mapstr about three years ago I recommended it to many of my friends out of my excitement with what it was then and hopes for its future. Unfortunately, the app seems to me to have been on a fairly constant trajectory towards feature bloat that has made the core experience harder to use and appears to have degraded performance. I wish the tremendous effort that it must have taken to convert this app to a social network would have been instead directed to making improvements to the UX of the core experience of adding and viewing places. Specifically the biggest issue to me is content density: there is lots of whitespace in the UI, there is much less information displayed about a place than in other map apps (so that I have never been able to meaningfully rely on Mapstr for this info), and many touch targets are too small by modern standards. Also important to me is performance, especially on app launch, which is unfortunately much slower than other apps (and often banners appear which further distract from accessing the map quickly). On the social side, I would have been quite happy with the simple ability to share lists/categories/map via link, and no concept of “friends” whatsoever. HOWEVER, I have a lot of respect for the developer, which seems to be a really small team, possibly just one engineer. Persevering with a project like this, where your competition is all massive companies, for as long as you have (without selling out!) is impressive and commendable. I still think Mapstr has potential if the development focus can be returned to the core experience.

    • Everyone should have this app

Mapstr is by far my favorite utility app. I love recommending others use it because if they don’t have mapstr then they aren’t able to remember all of the cool places they hear about to visit, especially in our home city, Chicago.

    • Wish they wouldn’t sell your data

The app is nice itself, just wish they didn’t sell your data. Now I get random creepy emails from the CEO of this app asking me to verify my email address over and over again and junk emails addressed to my burner handle (which I created especially for this app), so I know it was them who sold it to the scammers. So annoying.

    • Great App except…

This app is a great for keeping track of all the places you want to save. However, I would really like the option to use it on an Mobile. Developers: can you please update this app so it can fit on a larger full screen display?
