I have had subsequent emails from him, and a satisfied he will be releassing a new version with most of my concerns repairs, soon. Raising the review since I was a bit hasty. He had not replied, but turns out he was very busy. I must appologize for that. ----- I spoke to him a few times. We discovered that his app was failing because of character sets in some subtitles that his app did not understand. So it would basically crash. He knows what is happening, yet he has not updated it to at least ignore those items and continue on. In addition I sent him a request for a useful enhancement. Wanted to be able to batch a folder of movies. Being a fellow developer, I even suggested how to do this. But he did not respond. For many of us who need to extract more than 3 or 4 films worth of subtitles, this is sorta a must have. Other wise it is a mess. It is a fine tool but if you need to extract subtitles and it keeps crashing, you should use the MKVToolNix and uncheck the offending foreign subtitles and recreated the MKV. This will allow you to extract and least english, spanish, french from most any mkv file without it crashing. A work around at least.
I have been searching for a way to extract subtitles for a while. I admit, I was focusing on free ways, but based on its performance so far, this app is worth spending $10. It is as simple as boasted, and it does work on mkvs from both DVDs and Blu-rays. I would estimate it's about 95% to 98% accurate so far, so it's as good as I realistically hoped, and actually better than I expected, so I figured I'd given it the full five, since I can't give it a 4.5. I am very pleased.
Well, we´ve got very few options. This app does some of the heavy lifting, but the resulting subtitles require heavy proofreading. Other apps I have used try words against dictionaries (a language might be chosen at the start). If a proper word cannot be found, even a preview of the graphics can be shown as to type the proper conversion and make the app learn it. Too many non-existing words show up.
Iconverted by DVDs to MKV files and wanted to convert the Bitmap-based subtitles to SRT subtitles because some video players for smart TVs or for Synology Video Station do not support bitmap subtitles. The product provides the desire capability of using OCR to convert bitmap subtitles into SRT subtitles. The quality of the conversion is very high. The only example in which I needed to edit the result slightly was for the movie Rashamon for which the English subtitle was not easy to read. The tool allows me to select one or multiple subtitles to convert. I have a larger library and would greatly benefit from a capability to script or run batch conversions. I add a star if this is provided.
I needed to extract some .srt subtitles from an .mkv file, and this app successfully got me the file I needed. It seems like all the other subtitle managing apps are meant only for adding subtitles to videos, not extracting existing subtitles, so I'm glad I finally found something that did what I needed.
