While I understand it’s advertised as a backyard bird app, the number of species it considers local is too limited. For example, we get a many warbler species passing through but it limited my choices to the common species. It should have a way to override local settings to account for migrants and even vagrants and it should list all birds in the ABA database for the continental US.
This app is disappointing. It is not helpful in identifying birds. After noting features of a totally grey bird it suggested a red bird. It does not give many variations of the same species or differentiate male and female, usually quite different. Pictures of birds are in a random order with no organization.
If you have zero knowledge of birds, it’s difficult to categorize what you are looking up in order to read about it on the app. Not at all user friendly for a person who is trying to learn.
Absolutely positively a cr** app. Don’t waste your money! Worst search capability imaginable, horrible web design, impossible to maneuver within app. Bad, horrible app. Shame on ITunes for selling this - and placing it at the top when searching for bird identification apps.
Fun for my school age kids to help identify the birds they see. I like the search format (choose the bird shape, size, tail lengthy, etc.), and how it comes up with possibilities.
