I’ve used this resource for years as a pilot and now as a flight training instructor for a major airline. Not only does it provide information to do my job, CC reminds me what is the proper terminology for B 737 displays and symbology, so that I can teach concepts accurately.
very good
The best knowledge support for B-737
I am on final approach with a long career with a well known B737 Company who I’ve loved working for. Bill and his companions have been with me most of it (33 yrs). When I first found out about his book CC i bought it…..and later the CC app. What a resource! It helped me through many checkrides and through many systems analysis situations over the years……Thank you Bill! He also wrote a book called the FMC Companion (when I didn’t have a lot of resources about the FMC because we used so little of its capabilities early on). He helped me gain an understanding of the system and I’ve built on it ever since thanks to that early resource… But here is the MONUMENTAL GIFT he gave me. In the additional techniques section of the FMC Companion there was a section on flying the aircraft using the MCDU/VNAV (or DES) descent page 3R. THIS CHANGED THE WAY I FLEW THE AIRCRAFT. It’s called the Vertical Bearing method. Look at The FMC Companion Techniques section if you want to learn a way to fly this aircraft with the most SITUATIONAL AWARENESS that you can….. Thank you Bill Tailwinds
I’ve been flying 737’s for 23 years and have always kept a copy of the Cockpit Companion in my flight bag. The App, with the quizzer, is a great addition to the company manuals, it is a perfect way to stay up on the systems and prepare for recurrent training. I also find it a useful resource in Line Operations (i.e. have an MEL want a little more systems back ground than is provided in the MEL - the CC comes out for a quick review). Additionally, the airline training foot print has moved away from the deep systems knowledge of the past (remember the “I’m a air molecule, draw my journey through the bleed system?”) to more “pilot” friendly. The problem is I find a lot of the new hires don’t have the deep systems knowledge of yesteryear. The Cockpit Companion App fills that gap and provides the systems information from the Pilot perspective that the AFM just can’t reproduce. If you are serious about being an aviator, this App is a must have.
