This works just the way it should. I get my whole daily inbox in limited form and can edit it before I bother downloading it. Spam gone!
Having used POP Monitor for years, I was disappointed that it would not run on Lion. I hoped this would be a good substitute and it does show promise. One major issue is when you delete a number of selected messages, you have to retrieve all the mail again since it closes out all the previously retrieved mail. For some reason, the spam filter does not seem to work for me. After marking an address as spam, the same address returns at a later date without being marked again as spam. Not sure if it is a problem with the program or something I am doing wrong. The instructions are not real clear to me and there is no way to go to the developer for answers. The program shows promise but is rather unwieldy at its present. Additionally, in the preference panel, when you check the spam filter to filter by "address", it reverts to filtering by "subject" as soon as the preference panel is closed. Effectively this makes the spam filter useless for me. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to contact the developer. When I tried to contact him on his website, the message did not go through. The upadate has solved the problem of the previous version. Spam filters seem to work well. One possible improvement might be the ability to automatically delete spam, but as it is, the program has become indispensible to me. I highly recommend it. Follow up JAN 17 Unfortunately, this program has developed a verly serious problem. For some reason, the preferences for the spam list contilnue to get lost. This now happens almost every day. I have contacted the developer buy he sees no resolution. The only work around I have discovered is to keep a copy of the preference file and replace it each time I open the program. I really detracts from the usefulness of the application, but I have found no better substitute so I continue to use it.
I have used a lot of email retrieval programs going back to the early 90s in both windows and OSX. This is an excellent program for OSX and shines in Lion. OSX doesn't have a lot of options for email retrieval programs, and it is refreshing to find such a gem. I had been using POP Monitor, but that program is no longer supported under Lion. That led me to this even better program. I have 8 addresses I check multiple times a day, and a few I want to check manually once a day, or weekly. This program allows me to customize my checking and is flexible enough to handle every type of email account I have. The only thing I miss from my days in Windows is the customized alerts/filters for individuals -triggering a wav/mp3/etc file when their email address is detected in the list. That was a program called MailAlert, which is not Android compatible. Other than that, this program far exceeds my expectations. It is small, fast, and highly customizable. The only place I can see it lacks is combining all the email search/retrieve into one window. Each account has it's own window which means a person needs to advance to the next mailbox manually. A small incomvenince for a great program. I hope this will become an option or even the default in the future. Great program!!!
This is a good app, but 2 things could make it great. I was using Mailwasher Pro before I upgraded to Lion, now it doesn't work since there is no rosetta support. If this app could add 2 things it would be as good as Mailwasher Pro. 1. When Mailbox Manager fetches emails for multiple accounts the apps shows one email account in a window, then you have to click next to see the next email accounts mail. If you have 6 email accounts you have to click next 6 times and go to 6 different pages. I would like to to suggest having the app fetch all the emails from all the accounts and put them in one window. At the top of the page where ID,Subject,From, Date and Size is another section could be added called Description or something that will tell you which email account the email is being fetched from. 2. My next suggestion is to add a split window in the app so when you click on an email it shows at the bottom, instead of having to double click and the email opening in another page. This is a good app if you have multiple email accounts and you want to delete the spam and junk email from your mail server so you can just download the email you want. The whitelist works great and when you get the app trained from friendly email to spam you just click select all and all the spam and unmarked email is selected for deletion.
