I regretfully have to update the glowing review I wrote below. It's 3 yrs since Karelia has updated this app or supported in any way. It was a bit buggy under Mojave but now in Monterey, it crashes constantly. The functionality is still the best – but now I'd have to recommend NOT buying it. Such a shame! I've been using The Hit List off and on for several years but only recently upgraded AND got the FREE Android app that works well, and has instant push notifications. It made a very good product excellent. I've tried a ton of other apps and they all had limitations that were deal breakers. Things is very good but too inflexible and, frankly, too expensive for the feature list. Where Things is rigid, the Hit List allows you to organize the way that YOU like to see your lists. The easy shortcuts for outlining the lists and keeping them organized make it a quick and painless experience to use. That said, I only gave it 4 stars because while I haven't had many issues (so far), a visit to the developer's website shows that user feedback and questions go unanswered for months or years. The commitment to an excellent piece of software is a little iffy. But it works and it's elegant and easy and powerful.
• Crashes when making new lists • New tabs cannot be selected • Lots of rendering issues requiring the window to be resized to render properly
Finally I have found a tool that has keyboard shortcuts for everything. As GTD devotee know how important it is to economize on time spent reaching for a mouse. This app gets that. Also, the timing feature for tasks is quite handy. Quick entry of tasks is just that, quick and easy. I can’t believe more people don’t use it. My approach has evolved over the years. Now every project gets its own list: no more “Home Repair” lists. That was too vague to be motivating. Now there might be three lists that say “Put in Weather Striping”, “Clean Shed”, “Find a brick layer”. And then when the project is done, I can simply archive the list. Thanks also for the Google script support!
The app needs an update to it’s look to match the more flat look of where Google has moved in their OS. Love the Star Wars tones when you add Darth Vader to the task name. I love full screen mode. Repeating reminders work flawlessly with the iOS app now.
If you like simple, fast, clean, and powerful apps, then you will love The Hit List. On the serface it is incredibly simple and intuitive. Take a little time to learn the keyboard shortcuts and how to legerage tags and this thing because an incredibly powerful ToDo app.
