Update: Thanks for the iOS 8 compatibility! But, adding an option for disabling the preliminary "make Simplified cards" windows and/or an in-App purchase for the removal of advertisements would be much appreciated. The only room for improvement seems to be iOS 8-compatibility. Otherwise, it's peffect!
I have to say I use this a lot. IC 3rd edition is supplied (for small fee) but of course the font or script type is different. I can get over that as you'll need to learn it anyway but other things are disappointing. I'd actually like to be able to make custom flashcard stacks. The lessons will only allow one character per card so even though IC teaches some expressions using multi character groups, you can't add these to a lesson. In addition, many character definitions are completely different to what is in the book.
You should download just to see it all.
This has the IC books already available with minimal errors in the characters they've chosen. The review feature to practice a subset of cards never lets you delete cards you've mastered which is a downside for targeted study but perhaps not used by everyone.
This is the only app I know of for language learners who are interested in comparing the readings of Chinese characters across East Asian languages. I love the idea of being able to test for a traditional character based on a hangul reading, a Vietnamese word based on pinyin, or any other language combination in whichever direction I like. However, since the Chinese languages use many, many more characters that might not necessarily have been borrowed into the other languages, there's a lot of situations in the test mode where you're given a Chinese character with no equivalent in the language, so you're expected to choose the "blank" option (there is sometimes more than one "blank" to choose from, and it gets registered as a wrong answer if you choose the wrong blank. But even if it weren't for this bug, it seems like we should only be tested for the readings of characters that actually exist in our chosen language.) Even worse is in reading -> character test mode when we're presented with a "blank" as the question, and are supposed to choose the Chinese character that doesn't have a reading in the language (again, there might be more than one of them among the answers, but only one will register as correct). This happens often enough that it makes the app very frustrating to use for Japanese, Korean, or Vietnamese.
