If you suffer from any type of strain injuries, carpal tunnel, or arthritis, this app makes SUCH a difference. I work online and have to type and click all day, and there was a point when I would be in tears at the end of the work day because my wrists hurt so bad. Since I've been using DwellClick, I haven't had that problem. Thank you to the makers of this wonderful app!
This is one of those utility apps that I find I can't live without. The big advantage of this application comes when using a trackpad. The ability to have the click happen automatically is really excellent and helps speed up my work. For those of you who feel that this is the height of laziness, I would reply that there are people with either RSI or carpal tunnel syndrome who probably find this application a godsend. I have neither, but find that the the ability to automatically enter the click was surprisingly more efficient than doing it manually. By playing with DwellClick's preferences, I was able to achieve the right timing for my reflexes and discovered I was able to get my work done faster than without it. I would warn potential users that it takes some getting used to in order to learn this application, and not everyone will have the patience to master it. I found it less useful with a Magic Mouse than with the trackpad, particularly because there's a setting in Prefs that allows the user to override the default click if their finger remains on the trackpad. There is no equivelant setting for that with a mouse. That setting also becomes important when moving the pointer away from the insertion point when wanting to type. Without being able to override the click, the cursor jumps to a different location. Admitedly, moving the pointer is more of a reflexive move on my part, and in general, the less you move the pointer with DwellClick, the more efficient it becomes. While there is a pop-up panel that allows double-clicking, most users will find that a double-tap is more efficient. (That assumes you've checked the appropriate checkboxes in the Point and Click tab of the Trackpad menu under System Preference.) The same is true of a right-click. Most clicking, however, is equivelant to a left-click, and there DwellClick excels. Personally, I'd find it more efficient if the pop-up panel could be reordered. Personally I'd like the double click icon (two dots) to be in the center. As it is now, the drag icon is there. Lastly, I should add that I'm primarily a keyboard person. I use Alfred to launch, switch and manipulate most of my software, and DwellClick is a nice addition to that arsenal. There may be one or two little tweaks I'd like to see, but this is an interesting and useful piece of software. Before you purchase DwellClick, I'd strongly suggest going to rapidclick's website and download the free trial version of this software which runs for 30 days. Like me, you may find it's worth the $16, or you may find that this utility isn't for you.
I've used this app for years due to severe repetitive strain injuries. It takes about 10 mins. to get used to. Want your mouse to click for you, just pause it over what you want to click. Want to doubleclick and open something, just hold down the FN key on your keyboard and a series of pop-up icons will appear. Just click on the double dot and the program will double click for you. Want to move a window, hold down the same FN key and select the second icon...then move your window. It's really easy. You can adjust the speed at which the click will take place after pausing your mouse. Just be aware where your mouse is at all times so you aren't accidentally opening windows randomly. Our hands have not been designed to click some 10,000 times a day. Even those without injury should use this to prevent damage and exhaustion. I couldn't work or use a computer without this wonderful program.
It is terrible, bad quality and layout. Freezes, no option on exact time to set for clicks. Intervals dont work properly. They idea was great, but lack of effort. It is a scam of $10.
In combination with a trackball, I’ve reduced wrist strain considerably with this and Dwellclick. If you notice wrist pains, don’t make yourself worry anymore and just get this already.
