This app allows users to read news created by ASUs paper and it sure gets the job done. There are three sections: news, sports, and opinion (this one does not seem to work). The curvy font used is not easy on the eyes and half of the landing page is Ad links. Overall the app does what it is intended to do.
I liked the App before iOS update. Now it just crashes. It'll download, but I can read any content because it just crashes. I've updated the App....same thing.
Information wise the State Press app provide users access to a variety of stories and content parallel to what was available in the print versions of the State Press. The video section provides quality bonus content to the app which was previously only available on the web version of the paper. In terms of just the content/info provided by the app..users can expect the same quality of the former print version. The home user interface is cluttered with too many graphics and clash with the icon navigation at the lower half…this creates the look of two completely different apps. The home screen would look better if all navigation was icon based to alleviate this clutter and confusion. This is further compounded by the ads which are currently dividing the upper news navigation and lower icon navigation used for supplemental features. I’m sure these ads pay for the development of the app, but they only further add to my eye’s confusion of where to focus my attention first. Components of the app (red offers tab, some graphics) take a while to load which led me to skip sections of the app or certain stories entirely. Other than the home screen/user interface clutter and navigation inconsistency, I like the overall structure/bones and content available on the app. I would use this app more often if it had a consistent “look”, iconography, and reduced clutter. Definitely on its way to being a great little app that continues and expands on the legacy of the State Press.
I just downloaded this app. It has some great features, such as the left navigation bar, the aesthetics are simple, and I like to have more than just headlines to get into an article which the app provides. A major drawback to the app is loading time. I pictures, new pages and videos slow down transition time. Also a search feature might be helpful.
This is a fantastic app!!!!!
