Help me understand

I am a DIYer I bought my walabot some time ago I am not drilling holes in my walls all the time therefore I use it every so often why do I need to contact customer support or spend another 100 and some dollars at least $160 actually to buy a newer model so every couple of years I need to spend that much money just so that I can use this device? Please help me understand.
