if you want a good password manager without unnecessary bells and whistles for a fair price, then look no further. want to self-host your own vault? you can! open source that anyone can view? it's got that covered too. multi-platform? yep. multi-browser? yep. works with touch-id and face-id for easy access. there's really no reason to be using anything else, and definitely not to pay more.
Both UI & UX run circles arounf every other password manager I've tried (Dropbox Password, Last Pass, 1Password, NordLocker, iOS Keychain, with Chrome Passwords being the absolute worst of the bunch). Very cut & dry/to the point parameters and field entry prompts that can be swiftly added to the OS clipboard in a single key stroke, or mouse click. Kudos for having a favorites setting, folders for organization, and multiple types of item entry types (login, card, identity, and secure note). And the best part....*drumroll sounds* it's FREE, ACTUALLY free. Nothing bad to say about this fine piece of work.
so i love the app and bitwarden in genral what i dont undertand is that i downlaod the app from the app store but the extension is missing, so that fun but overall a good password manger.
After I left the lastpass brand, I transferred over to Myki, which eventually went out of business. I then came over here to Bitwarden and the service has worked even better than Myki or lastpass ever did. Bitwarden works consistently on all the devices and browsers I use it on (iOS, Firefox and Brave browsers), but note, I do not use it directly on Safari, since the Android app is right there.
Based on my experience with Firefox and Lasspass, I would say Bitwarden is a good password maanger with a few buts. When it comes to autfill, Firefox is far superior. However, I don’t feel comfortable leaving passwords in Firefox “unprotected”, That is, once you log into FF, there is no added layer of protection to access saved pws. For me, getting Lasspass to work was a major disaster. Basically, its importing function didn’t work. Lasspass Support was responsive but lacked the proper tools to do remote diagnoses. Plus its history of being hacked was not very reassuring. Adding new devices to Biwarden can be challenging. It is a plus as well as a minus. The error message I got was "user email and pw didn’t match". While I appreciated their safeguarding my data security but the message was totally misleading. Because of “unrecognized” I couldn’t even open a case with BW. After four attemtps, I was finally able to add my 4th device ;((. Autofill didn’t work with my google accounts (is this because I have muliple google acs? but Firefox was able to do autofill under the same circumstances). By the way, not sure if it was user error, I tried to add BW extension to Safari but I got an error messange “BW stopped unexpectedly”. I then was asked if I wanted to report it to Google. Not sure if Google cared but I submitted the report. Based on past expereince, I probaly won’t hear anything from Google on this “error”.. Also BW is NOT “optimized” for my 2016 Samsung tablet, which means it doesn’t work... On the other hand, bidwarden deserves high marks for being open source, audited, allowing unlimited devices across multiple OS plantforms (except for duckcuckgo andI couldn’t add it to Safari)) and free (although I like its premium reports and will sign up once all the kinks are worked out). In addition, there are a lot of excellent Youtube vedios on how to use BW. They are handy guides for someone new to password managers. After one week. BW seems to work fine with Firefox. I will update this review after I gain more hands-on experience with BW.
