Speaky really has a lot of potential, my biggest problem is that I wish the app offered a feature like other similar apps, where you can only allow a certain age group or your same gender to message you. Because there are very many creepy old men who spam you with messages, and aren’t there to learn. Whereas on other apps I can filter them out. Also Speaky crashes constantly, and is super buggy. Since I started using the app I have only met about 6 people in total, that were genuinely there to learn and make friends, vs the hundreds of creepy older men looking to flirt. Considering I’ve had the app for over a year that isn’t a good number ratio at all.

Most people see that I am 17 and want something so if u use say u are like 34 and a guy or something

Speaky glitches so bad I can’t use it. After the first few sentences the typing becomes glacial- I have to wait several seconds in between keystrokes. That’s when it can even connect Me. About two thirds of the time it can’t find a network connection or simply says “something went wrong”. Mind you, I can stream video all day long. It’s not a problem on My end. I can conduct live video conference calls on other apps with zero problems- only Speaky has this issue. What makes it even more sad is that a few years ago I was on Speaky and Loved it. It’s the greatest platform for finding language exchange partners, bar none. Even Tandem isn’t as good- smaller userbase that’s less communicative and more self-censored. Speaky is large and active and very open. And like I said I loved it, but whatever updates they made, it just doesn’t work anymore, which is sad. Even the website doesn’t work. 🤷‍♂️
