Oahu GPS Audio Tour Guide for Android

We did the Eastern shore and circle island tour today, intertwined with some things I planned prior to knowing about this app. The app was very good about the directions of where and when to turn. The music was entertaining, and the information was constant and interesting. Anyone with a car driving around Oahu is missing out with if you don’t use this app!

If you’re traveling to Oahu this app and it’s tours are a must. We purchased the tours a couple of months before our trip and listened to the tours at home or on long drives. This helped us plan our vacation and helped us pick the things we must do. I bought all 5 tours and used them all. On the island, the GPS worked flawlessly. The cues came up when they were supposed to. Imagine driving or walking around the island with your own personal tour guide. The tours not only give you turn by turn directions but give you details, history and background for what you are about to visit or the area you are currently in. The tour guide also has a little bit of humor and do me as the driver appreciated the positive reinforcement when making a correct turn or following directions. “WELL DONE!” A few things that I struggled with but by no means took away from how good these tours are… 1. The guide kept mentioning “highlights”. For example “check out restaurants in the highlights section of the tour.” I could not find this section until today (2 days after our vacation). The recommendations are under “Explore” at the bottom of the main app. Please make the highlights easier to find and integrated more into the tour that is being used / listened to. 2. While driving the screen prompt pop ups for direction or specific locations block some of map blocking the turns that are coming up. Is there a way to move the pop up to the bottom of the screen leaving the map uncluttered? 3. Although the GPS worked flawlessly the map wouldn’t recenter. Our little blue dot would drive off screen and wouldn’t recenter unless driving over an audio cue. If you hit an audio cue the map would now recenter. On long sections without any audio cues we would have to touch the blue compass arrow on the screen to recenter our location (blue dot) to see where we were. Thank you Shaka Guide for making our Oahu trip so memorable. We’ll be planning future trips to Hawaiis other islands and Shaka Guide will be part of those vacations as well. We love these tours because they take us to wonderful spots all around the island without us having to do all the research to plan the day. Great cultural and historical info included to enhance the day.

We spent most of a month on the Hawaiian islands and Oahu was our last island and definitely our least favorite. Since my Husband permanently uses a wheelchair, regular tours and beaches are mostly unavailable to us, so we really rely on exploring on our own. The north shore circle tour was our favorite day on Oahu. You think of Oahu as just mostly Waikiki and Honolulu, which was too much city for us. This tour showed us that more natural side of Oahu and was,like every other Shaka app we’ve used, absolutely flawless. We also enjoyed the Honolulu city walking tour. We got a lot of great historical information. Interestingly, we had a private guided tour of the Missouri and Pearl Harbor and on the drive there and back, she was talking about Hawaiian history and culture and in my head, I kept saying, Shaka already told us that. So I will say, the information is spot on to what you would receive from even a highly rated tour. The Shaka apps are maybe my favorite apps ever in terms of how useful, interesting and easy to use. Worth every penny and then some. We used it on 4 islands and it greatly enhanced our trip. Now that we’re home, we find ourselves missing Shaka and his corny jokes and laugh.

Downloaded all the tours and even though we didn’t use them all, I’m glad we did. The stops helped us plan our days, and the tours we did use, were full of interesting information. Loved it!
