I have been dealing with two, long-standing bugs/issues that I just cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to get rid of. Iâve been an Overcast user for many years, and one of these issues has been there for a long time, but comes and goes. The other issue has cropped up after the redesign. Iâve tried to look online to see if anybody else has experienced the same issues, but have come up short. Overcast has been my favorite podcast player for such a long time - and it would be perfect if I could just get rid of these two, very annoying issues! 1) SCROLLING ISSUE - When I open up Overcast, something happens to the scrolling such that the top portion gets cut off by the search bar. The unplayed, active, and archive buttons get cut off and the title of the respective view gets cut off. When I exit the app and reopen Overcast, it somehow fixes itself and I can see everything fine with no weird scrolling cut off. Alternatively, if Iâm faced with the weird scrolling cut off, I can go to the Add Podcast view and then return to the Unplayed/Active/Archived views and the scrolling cut off is no longer there. This has been an issue for a long time - even from before the redesign. 2) LAG ISSUE - When I try to click into a podcast show to see the episode list, it lags for a moment, and then quickly jumps two times into the episode list. I then have to swipe back once to select the episode that I want to listen to. This issue started appearing after the redesign. Iâve tried relaunching Overcast; Iâve tried re-installing. The issues keep coming back. And while they donât necessarily hamper any essential function of the app, they are very annoying. And I get the scrolling and lag issues multiple times a day. I canât tell if itâs just me, or if anybody else is dealing with this.
Very good app. It works well. The playlists are easy to make and the different settings are easy to understand and use. I like the smart speed feature as well.
About one out of three or four of my podcasts end up crashing out in the middle or begin with the dreaded eternal spin right at the beginning and refuse to play at all in either stream or download mode. To be fair the issue could be at my end with my iOS tablet but have no issues loading and playing large video files and Iâm not tech savvy enough to figure this out. Other than that single frustrating issue I love everything else about this podcast player.âșïž UPDATE: After it being the sole podcast in my subscription list thatâs consistently throttled and glitchy Bannons War Room abruptly disappeared altogether. I canât find it in the search either. Apparently it wasnât woke enough for this platform and the selection is mediocre as it is so Iâll be migrating to Spotify. Bah-Bye, Grand Poobahs of the crumbling world of Woke.đ Another Update: My opinion was somewhat too harsh in the previous update and Bannonâs War Room did make a surprise appearance the following day (although itâs nowhere in sight again today). After reconsideration, and to be fair to the creator, I concluded that this âhere today/gone tomorrowâ glitch is probably not the fault of this playerâs creator(s) but more an issue at the podcast supplierâs end. Iâm swapping that one star to five and Iâll drink the wrath of shame for my personal oversight because other than that single issue it truly is a top notch podcast player and youâd be hard challenged to find better. If I learned anything from this it would be to never instantly assume anything⊠because I might just be wrong.
I canât name any features I want that arenât available in Overcast. Per-podcast speed preferences are brilliant.
As a long term paying customer, I appreciate the new UI, including vastly improved customization. The watch app is also improved and is easier to use based upon the UI improvements. So far, so good! Definitely recommend users of other podcast players try Overcast today.
