Will Desktop Tidy be updated for Sierra ? If so, when. I like the app a lot but it is broken now.
I really prefer having my desktop free of clutter, however using it daily it becomes so convenient to drop files/folders on the desktop. Thats where Desktop Tidy comes in!!! In the Google fashion of “It Just Works”, Desktop Tidy can automatically clear your desktop, move it to another location, and still give you simple access from the menu bar. They really put a lot of effort into thinking about the “what if” scenarios, like what you want to keep on your desktop, how often you want it to Tidy, simple access to the files from anywhere, and being able to filter those files to find what you need. This is definitely worth the purchase, and I wish more people knew of such an app! Two things I wish they could add, 1) in the filter text bar that it would be a search bar as well 2) that they could add some kind of maintenance update, some people look at an application that hasn’t been updated for almost 2 years on the app store as troublesome. The developer is really good in responding to support emails though.
I like this application well enough — the Shadow Desktop is a good innovation, though tricky in that it creates a large storate usage — but wonder why I have to buy it all over again for a .1 version improvement. Seems rather contrary to common practice.
After working on several projects during the day my desktop gets cluttered. I tend to spend so much time looking for files on my desktop and it wastes time. Every couple of weeks I will take the Desktop contents and throw it in a folder with the date on it and throw it on Dropbox. This kind of works, but isn't a perfect solution. That's where Desktop Tidy comes in. It automatically thows it into a folder. Now whenever my folder gets big, all I have to do is rename it with the date and the app should create another folder for the next move. This app is a life saver because it keeps my desktop clean for me to work on current projects during the day. I would like to see the ability to set a time for the 1 day frequency. I want to be able to set it for 6 am every morning so everytime I come back to my computer to start the new day, my desktop is clean for the new projects for that day.
I can’t seem to find any files in a desktop or a shadow desktop folder anywhere. It would be nice if I could use time machine and see that all my documents are being saved. Otherwise the app is alright, there are a few little annoying things about it here and there but my biggeest complaint would with the use of time machine. If my hd takes a crap and I restore will I have my files that were in the shadow desktop? I have no idea. FIX TO THIS PROBLEM ** UPDATE what’s happening is that by default desktop tidy stores files that are hidden in a 2nd Library folder that you will not have access to. You have to set the path somewhere else. Basically create a folder for your shadow folder to go into. Once you go to preferences and set your new path you’ll have to go find your shadow desktop since it doesnt automatically update. To do this you have to unhide the 2nd Library folder(there are two one is hidden by default) Go to your finder and click on your username directory in the sidebar. It only works if you’re clicked on your username file then go to view > show view settings > checkbox show library folder. then you can navigate to LIBRARY > APPLICATION SUPPORT > DESKTOP TIDY >SHADOW DESKTOP once you’re at this folder you can copy and paste all your items from this folder to your new directory folder you set earlier from withing the desktop tidy preferences panel.
