This is only my third RSS app. So far I’m liking it, has tons of features, more than I could probably make best use of. The one thing I need to know is how long before the app will delete old stories or will it just keep getting larger and larger? My previous app needed to get to almost 400 MB of data before it cleared, that’s a bit too much. As long as it stays at a manageable size, this will be my go to app. Waiting to see. Thanks.
In the day and age of everything being a subscription, NetNewsWire is a diamond in the rough. Everything works, my privacy is protected, I see no advertising, and the interface is every bit as simple and utility-focused as I could ask for. I tried to donate to the developer and the GitHub page insists on the app remaining free in every possible aspect… I feel like I owe something but I suppose that’s just the App Store-induced foggy memory of early days on the internet where people developed programs simply for the love of developing programs. A true enthusiasts app.
So rarely do you find a perfect app. NetNewsWire is the antithesis of so much modern software: It is lean and fast; it exhaustively implements system conventions and best practices; it is remarkably bug-free. It’s a pleasure to use and the developer has my gratitude.
- Mark read as scrolled, so as you go through article lists, that ones that scroll off the top are marked read automatically - Be able to group/sort repeat articles across multiple feeds. e.g. Sort by combination of FQDN of the feed and article title, then by latest first date of article(s) that ‘hash’ to the same FQDN+title.
Somehow this is the only RSS reader I’ve tried that successfully subscribes to some RSS feeds that cause problems with others. Why? How? Who knows. But it works. It doesn’t provide a magical immaculate reading interface with exotic fonts and colors, but - and I can’t stress this enough - it can actually subscribe to RSS feeds. Feeds that e.g. Newsfeed and Unread fail to subscribe to, this app handles like a champ. Thank you.
