BBC World Service for Android

The new format is less usable than previously. The live version of the world service is preferable to looping reports layered over the live feeds when possible. Podcasts are not preferable to streaming world news reports. I depend on the BBC for keeping my feet on the ground when politics, violence, the homeless, corruption, global warming, and new pandemic scares have thrown the globe into chaos. BBC Reporters are courageous and compassionate as they develop stories that illuminate the world in shadows as well as displaying a healthy sense of play and good humor when covering our foibles, fakeries, funny moments and in depth human interest stories as well. I listen to BBC whenever I can’t sleep because the confident voices and friendly conversations remind me of a civil society that exists with a certain consistency somewhere ‘out there’. The best part is the hope instilled by a modern organization that has its roots in communication with transparency and integrity. Nothing can compare to the variety and depth of the BBC stories. I often repost a report from the app that is relevant for my children who live in the Midwestern US while I live on the west coast. I can send them stories of people “fixing the world” when they are concerned about the chaos around them. The BBC keeps us sane and informed. It’s a lifesaver.

BBC broadcasts much more than the news. I particularly enjoy the science programs, especially ways to combat climate change. But so much more the "From Our Own Correspondents" is a particular favorite of mine. History through the eyes of someone who was involved in the event catches my ears every time. Best of all the listener is always respected.
