I am a long time Evernote (EN) user who, several years ago, started using EN as a replacement for other file storage and retrieval systems (e.g. Windows Explorer, OSX, Google Drive, etc.). While EN is great at collecting information, my ability to retrieve it has been less-than-satisfactory. This was probably due to my own ineptitude because I never could get into the system of tags and the lack of folders forced me to use categories (i.e. Notebooks) which were too broad. I've looked at a lot of apps over the years to replace EN or, at least, compliment it, without success. Until Nimbus, the closest I've come to finding a replacement was DevonTHINK - but found it to be an UBER-app which, for now, exceeds my needs and/or abilities. My limited testing of the last few days has indicated that Nimbus could well be what I've been looking for. I imported a couple thousand notes from one EN notebook and have found it exceedingly easy to query Nimbus to identify notes that I want to move (Nimbus calls it "Change folder") to a new folder or subfolder (or subfolder of a subfolder). I've actually been able to have reasonable success with the boolean operators of Nimbus in filtering the list of hits - something that frequently escaped me with EN. So far, the only major disappointment has concerned the way Nimbus handles the editing of attachments. With EN, I could open an attachment in its default editor (e.g. Word, Acrobat, etc.) and, after making my edits, save it to the original copy of the attachment. With Nimbus, it seems I must download the attachment, open it in an editor, save the changes, and, then, upload it as a replacement to the original attachment. This is way too inefficient for me and could become a deal buster. Since, however, I've just scratched the surface of Nimbus, I'm hoping (a) the company fixes the attachments issue and/or (b) I find enough redeeming advantages over EN to make the annoyance of the attachments limitation to be a reasonable trade-off.
I used to love Nimbus Note. But recently several things stopped working. e.g. you can't link to another note any more (a critical feature for me). Also, it is slow to sync. Everything seems to work fine using the Web app, so I hope they can fix the desktop app soon. If they do, I will change my rating to 5 stars. Instead of adding new features, they need to make the existing app work. I really don't want to leave and move to another app like Craft, but I might have to.
Overall I really like Nimbus and would love to use it more and perhaps even replace Notion, however the lack of Google silicon support really makes it difficult to like this application. It runs incredibly slow on my 16" MBP, which is very frustrating. I have searched online to see if there is any news about this feature, but no luck so far. I really hope this app supports Google silicon sooner than later.
Nimbus Note has grown significantly in the past year, and their customer service and general app UX has taken a hit as a result. The Android app probably works best as compared to the iOS and iPadOS versions (the latter of which is completely unusable due to freezing and crashing), but the billing practices of this company are what should make you questions enrolling for any kind of premium subscription. Yearly renewals are processed without notice, and refunds are not offered under any circumstance. Also, don't bother submitting a contact form via the Nimbus Note website as it will be ignored — chat is the best way to get a hold of somebody, though the chat service often cannot be initiated in Chrome (only works using Safari in my experience). In my case, I ultimately have had to resort to disputing the transaction with my credit provider since Nimbus Note has been uninterested in even pretending to care.
I have used many different life organization tools to keep track of the information I do not want to clutter my mind with but need to be able to recall or act upon. Most recently I have been using RememberTheMilk for tasks and small bits of information, combined with Notability and Evernote for more extensive notes and multimedia-based information. I had never found a single tool that was an all-encompassing solution nimble enough to manage all my tasks and appointments efficiently, and simultaneously capable of storing and easily accessing a vast variety of information types from disparate sources. Nimbus Notes is the first tool I have found that can: efficiently store and manage all the information I need to manage my life, provide the ability to access it offline in situations where I do not have an Internet connection, keep my information encrypted while in transit and at rest, and enable me to backup all my information locally. There are other tools with similar feature sets, but Nimbus Notes is the only one I have found which does it all. I highly recommend it.
