None of the wordprocessing or mindmapping tools I owned would allow me to create an outline where I could select, expand or contract levels that I wished to see; along with dragging and dropping lines to reorder. This fits the bill perfectly!
I found it very easy to use and organize my thoughts on a complex topic. I had not seen the problems reported about four years ago. I am very please with Cloud Outliner Pro. That being said, there is one enhancement I would like to see. I have a few thoughts that fall into many different categories. The way it operates now, I can enter my thoughts and duplicate them into multiple categories. This is fine as far as it goes. But, if I update the thought in one category, I have to repeat copying it and replace the old version of the thought in other categories. It would be nice, if I could create proxies (Google calls them "alias") thoughts, so when I update it in one category, it gets updated in all categories. For the price, quaility and rebust functionality, I cannot complain.
Probably the best outliner program I've ever used that didn't try to upsell me on something like OmniGraffle--personally very tired of trying to find a good program to outline in, only to find that it's a feature of a $200 product that also wants to sell you on its own suite of productivity apps. Cloud Outliner Pro has made my writing process for analytical and creative writing that requires strucutre so much easier. While it's hard to get the data in it into other programs in a nicely formatted way, it's worth the extra copy-pasting to just be able to sketch out an outline and flesh it out somewhere else--though you can flesh out quite a bit in the app itself. But regardless, I'm not left fiddling around with a much more feature-rich program like Scrivener trying to get it to do what I'd like it to or having to pay for features I don't need just to get a nice outline.
The only thing it lacks are distractions. Basic and useful. very useful
The software opens with a blank screen and no instructions, or information on how to use it . I had to dig into the Preferernces to get a list of the shortcuts--what keystrokes to use. I emailed Support to get the instructions and they sent me 5 pagers of bulleted things about what to do. I'm switching to MindManager, which has been staying in touch with me during the 30-daty trial
