This app works really well but it does take some experimentation to find the ideal settings and microphone placement. I’ve had good success with it, especially when working on a watch with the back cover off where the ticking sound is louder. The primary limitation of this app is the microphone. The developer may want to consider offering a dedicated microphone at an additional price.
I spent 2 hours trying to get measurements for a Seiko automatic watch, while trying various combinations in the settings. I used the air pad pro microphone for the measurements . The best I could do was to get the amplitude which seemed reasonable, but the app stalled for the rate and the beat error, given me zero information. To say the least I’m disappointed that I paid $14 for something that’s not ready for prime time.
I’m literally in a sound room and my watch is making “too much noise”. I move the watch away. The app no longer detects it. 😂 This should be more like $1.99 and sold as a novelty rather than a precise instrument for measuring a watches accuracy. I love the idea but it needs some serious work.
I love this app! I just started being a hobbyist watchmaker and this is the perfect app for someone who’s new like me. Instead of spending over $200 on a timegrapher, this app will get the job done for a fraction of the cost. Keep in mind it will never be as good as a dedicated timegrapher, but it’s a great start. It sometimes struggles with noise but using the tick detection noise canceling helps a lot. It also struggles with cased watches so measuring the movement outside the case is much better.
It works. Had to tweak settings a bit. Already measured my watches error over 24 hours as -22s/day...this nailed it in a few seconds as -22.1-3.
