This game is great. But I loved how in the old game you could make formations (By changing where the troops were facing). I also loved how upgrading changed the troops look and that helped with finding your elite troops. I also wish you could make Special Forces AND Modern Infantry to mix it up a bit. Otherwise I love this game!
What could I have accomplished if I had never discovered Civilization Revolution? With the time I have spent playing it, I’m sure I could have become fluent in 3 or 4 languages. Or maybe I would have become a full stack developer, perhaps even designing and building games like this. No regrets, though, I have enjoyed every minute of it. It has given me a much-needed respite from a sometimes discouraging world. I love the variety of available civilizations, each with unique strengths. I love that there are other ways to win besides Domination (though I seem to default to that). If you prefer a more peaceful outcome, you can choose to win a Cultural, Technological, or Economic victory. I like the use of terrain for tactical advantage. I like the way units gain skills as they gain experience. I only wish there were an advantage to a combined arms attack featuring infantry, artillery, and mobile units in the same space. That is a pretty fundamental principle of military strategy. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable game. Thanks for the memories!
The downside to this game is getting gang banged on the higher levels. It’s common to have 3 countries attacking you all at once while the sleeper is going for the tech victory. They never seem to attack each other, but only you. Sometimes I quit the game about a quarter in because I can see it’s going to be trying to fend off 3 countries at once. I’ll usually go for it if it’s 1 or 2 countries, but 3 is usually a loosing battle. It would be a better game if the countries fought between themselves, and not just gang bang me.
Some of the menus cannot be seen on Android 11, which makes the game unplayable. It’s pretty disappointing as this is definitely one of my favorite games on the phone.
I was a huge fan of the original Civ Rev on XBOX 360 and PS3. I heard this game was originally released in Chinese handheld markets and was envious. My imagination swelled at how it could improve on the original. The game was released to American smart phones years ago and I’m just finding it and it is, for the most part, and direct port of the original with a few new rulers and countries. The strangest part for me is that the game has gotten rid of unique units and instead added new general units. Like most ports, the controls are different and it can take a minute to figure out how to get the game to do what you want it to. If there is one flaw in the game it is that few things are labeled and there isn’t much hand holding in the game which is fairly complex. The other big change is that the game doesn’t allow you to make armies from combining three of the same unit. This does make the combat strategy different. A couple of major improvements I’ve noticed is that the naval combat adheres to the numbers as there seemed to be a glitch where naval combat seemed to pick the winner at random. The game also runs much smoother with way fewer obnoxious load times. If you haven’t played Civ Rev before and are a fan of the civilization series, there seems to be a real split in the fan base. This is much less complicated than any iteration of Civ. It is relatively short with games not lasting than an hour or two at the longest. It is probably much more combat heavy with plenty of variation with only four means of victory. The play variations with different civilizations is less varied and more generic. It really is a very different kind of game but one I greatly prefer. If you have never played Civ, and you are willing to take your time learning a game with not much instruction, this is a great turn based game
