For a fair amount of hands clicking the “solution” provides a different play of cards even before the player has a chance to play a single card. Seems much worse in the latest version. There are been a number hards where I try and try to find a way to make the contract, I click the solution and low and behold it plays differently! Very frustrating! Sometimes the bidding doesn’t match the contract, really buggy. It was never wonderful, now this program is unusable.
This app is buggy and it is annoying, but I do find it useful anyway. First, the bugs: The counters for “played hands” “contract made” “contract down” “winning ratio” don’t increment if a hand is replayed (probably a feature, not a bug) BUT sometimes still do not increment on future hands played after a hand was replayed, which is a bug. Best to quit the app and relaunch it after every time you replay a hand (just for replays, no apparent problems if you just click “new hand” or “solution” after finishing the hand). I can live with that bug. Another bug is that the bidding and the contract don’t always match(!) For example, I just played on where the bidding box showed: N E S W 1C - 1H - 1S - 3S - 4N - 5H - 6S - - - BUT the box up top says “Vuln: NS, Contract S3n [means "south 3 no trump”] I started playing the hand thinking I was in 6 spades, but when my attempt to ruff a diamond failed I figured it out (still made the bid). This brings up another complaint that isn’t a bug: The dummy suits are ALWAYS arranged Spades - Hearts - Diamonds - Clubs, regardless of the contract. I don’t know about the rest of the world, but in ACBL tournaments the trump suit is to the dealer’s left, so I’m used to seeing it that way and I can get confused seeing trump in the middle of the dummy. Other annoyances: The bidding itself is not any standard that I recognize; for example, one hand appears to have opened a 2 diamond as mini-Roman, which is fine but there is no explanation and for users who don’t know that convention the bidding will be quite opaque. Not to say that all the bidding is wrong; most of it makes sense, it uses 15-17 point 1NT range and 5 card majors, etc, just that things like mini-Roman should be explained. This app lacks any kind of post-mortem or explanation of the hands. There is no way to load, save, or even reference particular deals (I can’t say “load deal #435” or even go back two deals ago) There is no UNDO, nor can the previous trick be seen once it is closed (again, this is a “feature” not a true bug) The sound effect is really, really LAME. This app does present some mild to medium challenging declarer play problems (there may be harder ones that I have not yet seen, since there is no way to ask for any particular kind of deals) and for me that makes it worth the money. Oh, and one final bit of advice: do NOT click the unlabeled rectangle (on the upper left) on the “settings” screen - it will activate a bug that will require quitting the app and relaunching it.
A card stuck in at least three games out of six or seven, both in the dummy and in the player’s hand so the game ground to a halt. Very frustrating, needless to say. When it works I like it but every game has a good chance of being stopped cold before the play is finished. I just bought it today. I’d return it if I could. I’ll check out Support now. If that changes my opinion I’ll come back to amend this review. I checked out Support. It’s written in Chinese, which isn’t much help to me.
"Total played hands", "Contract made", "Contract down" and "Ratio" show ZERO constantly no matter how many times I play. The game is set to one star and no amount of clicking on anything will make that change. However, I needed a non-online tutor and this does help, for super-low cost. Just really aggravating the features are "locked" or something.
