Whoever designed this app has no understanding of the hierarchy of important event info or how to create an app that is user-friendly and/or pleasant to look at. The "My Tickets" page was useless at a glance because once "voting closed" on a movie you couldn't see the venue info (where, when) anymore as the "closed" button covered it up. You had to click through several unnecessary pages (>manage >view event details >more details) to retrieve the info you needed to find the venue address. It appeared at the very bottom of the "more details" page. The map for venues was useless. It didn't give you the actual address, just the lat/longitude and you couldn't see the name of the venue without clicking on each oversize icon. Forget the Festival Schedule. Each movie title was overwhelmed by the patchwork of colorful (and useless) tags and the search function was clunky and each movie listing was cluttered with old showing times...shouldn't those just go away once they are passed? Eventually, I resigned myself to clicking through all the pages to get the info I needed and creating a event on my own google calendar so I would know where to go and when. Next year build a user-friendly app that prioritizes your audience: the people trying to see movies!
I selected a film to stream but didn’t know how to stream it. Had to google everywhere to see that they only put their streaming app on a tiny limited number of devices like Roku. After spending an hour sorting that out I added my film, went through checkout, THEY SAVED MY CARD TO THEIR SERVER, then they said it’s sold out. Remove my card from your server. I don’t want you to have it if you’re not selling me anything
Really, it’s horrible. You can’t go forward or backward. And if you stop playing for any reasons it can’t remember where you stopped. Whoever made this should be embarrassed. I hope they don’t get any other jobs making apps.
Somehow, Sundance managed to create an app that is so confusing and difficult to operate that even if you know exactly what you want to see, and when, you can’t find it, or you can’t find the description of the film without being overloaded with useless information. They put every possible label on every possible film and the venues are last in that massive color block list. It’s almost like you have to play the game break out instead of looking for a film! And if you want to know what’s playing at Eccles at 3 PM on Thursday, good luck, trying to find it. I am sure that the designers created it with a clear understanding of how it works, but it’s not intuitive in any way whatsoever. You shouldn’t need an instruction manual or a complicated tutorial to use an app. Blech.
The app will not cast any Shorts Programs to my Roku Streaming Stick or Roku Streambar and no amount of support from Sundance has been able to solve the issue. I haven’t dared to test the feature films that I purchased because I don’t want to risk starting them, not being able to watch them, and then losing access to them. I really hope Sundance plans to refund some portion of the $300 that so many of us spent on this experience, particularly since I wasn’t able to watch the Animation Shorts Program or Shorts Program 1. The app they used last year worked perfectly, and I cannot comprehend why they changed it and why they apparently did not do a bit of testing before releasing this garbage app prior to the festival starting.
