For years, Reuters used to be my go to app for news, but not anymore. The app’s primary purpose *should* be to read news, but that activity is no longer tenable, with ads and auto-play videos every paragraph. Somewhere on this page is the actual article, but good luck finding it. If you happen to be lucky enough to actually find the copy, it will be surrounded by distracting crap content and ads. Reuters may be one of the better news sources, but their app is unusable.
Far too many ads that are far too big and flashing and blinking and playing. Reading an article requires looking at one of these ads on half the screen while there is only a paragraph to see above it or below it every single screen of reading is like this. This is the most intrusive approach to ad-supported apps ever. And there’s no option like one buck per year or something to get rid of them. And there is no explanation in the app or easily found elsewhere that states why an app user would want to “sign in” or have an “account” with Reuters (other than selling our personal information to make money).
I have loved this app for all of my news needs, but my few complaints include how sensitive the ads are to touch, and a faulty search function. I have literally looked up an article by the title word-for-word and it couldn’t find it. If it can’t find it then it sends you other top articles that may not even have anything to do with what you’re searching for. It’s quite an annoying feature when you’re trying to find out about something from the source you trust the most, but don’t have time to sift through article after article just to find it. Wish you would fix this issue. Anyways, thanks for the great journalism, Reuters. Just wish your app was a little better.
App Layout- App is well laid out. App Content- Reuters continues to try and divide the country by making every story into a polarizing conflict. I would rather read factual news, not opinions and articles from a journalist trying to get everyone to think the same way as they do on the topic at hand. Deleted app.
6/29/2022: Home page feed is now updating, so upgrading rating to 3 stars. Hope it is really fixed, and wish it was done sooner. 5/29/2022: Home page feed and tech sections STILL don’t update. Can’t update the app with the “older version” either because it keeps repeating the same pop up msg when you click “Update” in the app store. Devs must have abandoned the app and it shows. 3/22/2022: Downgraded to one star because the home page news feed stories are now a month old. Now using another app (BBC). 3/1/2022: The articles on the home page feed haven’t updated in 4 days. Uninstalled and reinstalled- same issue.
