I used this app for so long and have been a free user..I’ve had a filter that was free that I used all the time. Now it’s locked behind the membership and I just can’t pull myself to pay for that membership. Looks like I’m off to another app. It was a great run. Great filters and social app other wise.
At first I was a little hesitant to subscribe in order to gain access to all the features and presets… but I love it! I’ve been subscribed for almost 3 or 4 years now and haven’t looked back since. I’ve never had to download another editing app. The app makes it so easy to use and has all the features you really need for either your own personal photos or even higher level photography.
… so I used to love it, every now and then they used to offer their recently developed presets which many of us bought and loved, but now they’re even selling features that used to be free within the app in order to get you to become a paid member which is total HS. The use of the app was simpler and straight forward but I guess everybody wants to be like Instagram instead of focusing on things that got them started in the first place! I guess this is a sincere good bye.
VSCO recently introduced a new business model: removing access to basic useful tools within the app that had previously (for the last ~10 years) been free to use/standardized. These are basic tools such as adjusting highlights and shadows, adding grain, or adjusting clarity. These aren’t tools that are exclusive and original to VSCO, so there’s no real reason to remove these features…and in reality it just makes the app less useful. I deleted it when I noticed I could no longer edit my photos the way I had been for the past 8 years. It’s just not worth it anymore. VSCO: if you want to make more money (which is clearly all you care about), try introducing new unique features instead of chipping away at the foundation of your app by stripping features from your dedicated users.
VSCO has been my main editing app for 6 years now. User friendly, good tools and filters, and great place to have your collection of photos. That was until their recent decision of making many features premium. Tone, split tone, and Grain as premium? Loved grain so much I decided to write this review. I get having exclusive features, as it has been before, but seing the locked sign in every other tool makes me just wanna go back to editing with my phone’s built in editing tools. Would take some big awesome update for me to consider paying premium.
