If you are using a business app printer for your home office, and haven’t assigned, or do not know how to assign, a static IP to your printer, this app will lose connection to the printer every time the printer gets a new IP. What can cause a new IP? Getting a new router. A power outage, rebooting your router. A few other things. Every time one of these events happens, it takes hours, if not days for the app (both android and Android versions!) to sync up and find the new IP. EVEN MANUALLY TYPING the new IP doesn’t find the printer. I know it’s the app cause AirPrint works fine. Direct usb print works fine. LAN print from any of my desktops works fine. The app, on android or Android? “Lol you don’t have a printer!” Remove the printer and try again? No, not even that works, even uninstalling the app doesn’t delete the settings and the app keeps looking at the old IP. Until suddenly, it works again. This is particularly frustrating when you have to print in a hurry. I just upgraded my router and since I had a DHCP reservation for this printer for over a year, I completely forgot about this issue. Then I had to print last night and spent way too long trying to get the app to go to the new IP, (finally did this morning) and have created a new DHCP reservation. Of course, I know how to do this. Many people do not, and that makes this app NOT user friendly.
When trying to airprint or scan it only works 3 times out of 10. Most times cannon app is not able to communicate with printer.
It’s a shame you can’t do much more than you can do already with AirPrint. For example, my single reason for trying this app is because I want to reduce the printout size to 90% of the original. This cannot be done in standard AirPrint. I figured, using an app directly from the manufacturer would offer more useful functionality. It does not. From my desktop I can do a hundred+ different modifications and tweaks to the printout from the driver/print dialog. This app offers minimal extra over the standard AirPrint. It works, but it’s a disappointment :(
This app no longer works on my Android 13 mini. Any chance of an update or patch to fix this? The new phone cannot find the printer. My old Android 8 can still find the printer. I will also approach Google for a patch as well.
Literally the only way I have been able to get my Canon MF743Cdw to print ANYTHING
