Game used to be 5 stars. However, overnight, game started charging for 90% of maps that used to be free plus kept existing paid maps paid. Developer: if you want more money, then make more maps that you can charge. Do not piss off your gamers and customers by charging what used to be free or included!
Game changed so you can only really play if you pay
Why is this app now charging for maps that were free before? Charge for new content, but why change and make game users pay for old content.
Many know this game from the early days of computer gaming. The port doesn’t work the same as the original but it’s fairly close (most annoyingly, automated troop movements aren’t optimized to avoid conflicts). I purchased the app a few years ago and it came with the classic maps from the original game. Since then the developer has chosen to lock all but three maps, which now have to be purchased separately. I could understand charging for newly developed maps, thereby extending gameplay, but hobbling the game and forcing devoted fans to now pay for something offered free with the purchase of the game just a few years ago seems greedy.
This version of the classic Warlords came with 14 free maps, ranging from Arthurian Britain to Southern Iluria to oddballs like Virus, Dragon, and Hand. (They're maps #1-14 if you're curious). Other maps required a $1.99 fee to unlock, but that wasn't a big deal as the amount of free content was more than worth the price of admission. Recently, however, they changed it. Now you only get 3 free maps. 3! That's it! Maps 4-14 have been locked behind paywalls! What's that? You want to play Southern Iluria again? That'll be $1.99 please! Arthurian Britain? Another $1.99! Absolutely ridiculous, especially when Warlords is available on other platforms for less predatory prices. GOG.com gives you the entire first and second games for $5. That's a far better use of your money.
