Shame on you for invoking Doulas Adams' name to promote your game! "If Douglas Adams had written a multiple choice game book, it might not be entirely unlike this one," you write in your description of your game. Well, Douglas Adams DID write a text multiple choice game (with Steve Meretzki) - the classic Infocom game "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy." HHGTHG is a classic, brilliant game that was far more than a simple translation of the book/radio show. It is one of the best text adventures ever made. Adams also started a sequel to that game that unfortunately was never completed. He did, however, write another game, "Starship Titanic". Since he is sadly, prematurely dead, he cannot stand up for himself and being a generous soul, he might have let this slide, but as a longtime fan, I cannot. Please remove that sentence from your game description. I tried your game and it isn't even in the same league as Adams' work. If you can't find some other selling points for your game, that should tell you something right there!
This "Choose Your Own Adventure" style story starts out with some promising Douglas Adams type humor, but quickly devolves into an uninteresting writing style that I found myself skipping through. The primary problems are: 1. There isn't very much tension in the story. 2. Aside from different names, there is no real variation between the characters; they all sound the same. 3. There are too many paragraphs without choices, and when the choices do come up... 4. ...there are not enough of them (you often only get two, and it seemed like a coin toss for me which to choose, which brings up my final point: 5. There is no joy in roll playing my character. Part of the fun of roll playing is to become someone else, but the character in this tale is a decidedly average Joe that's given decidedly pedestrian choices). For spending a buck, I didn't feel robbed, but I didn't have much fun either. Try out some of the other 'Choice Of' games first, especially Choice of the Dragon and Mobile Armored Marine.
I like this story and the choices made it interesting and fun. I did not like the ad location - made it sometimes confiding about my next steps because of the proximity to the button. Some ads also looked like functions that are part of the game.
I would say that this story is good not great. It is just isn't as exciting or fun as the other choice of games/hosted games sorry
I'm only about four steps in, but I love this game. The writing is very funny, the stats seem manageable, and a space adventure was just what I was needing to do. Give it a go! It's free, so why not?
