Some of the features in this app work really well. Ability to format and differentiate Title, Subtitle, Comments, Lyrics, and Chords. Accuracy of placement when typing chords into lyrics in editor. Exporting into PDFs and importing from different sources. However, the logic and workflow of formatting different kinds of text makes no sense and doesn't seem to look right on screen. For instance, when "zooming in" to see the text on the preview screen better, it is changing font sizes for everything so that when exported, it is far too big for the PDF. There does not seem to be a way to zoom into the editor screen but not change formatting of actual text. Additionally, you always have to remember to put any text you want formatted certain ways in the correct {format} so it shows as needed (like creating headers for 'VERSE' and 'CHORUS' instead of just being able to bold text in the lyrics section. This particular point is probably just nitpicking more than anything and just takes learning, but the font sizing changing when "zooming in" is an issue I could not seem to correct or overcome.
I got this app a couple days ago on my laptob and worked on chords and lyrics for 7 of my songs, and I am very satisfied. It takes a little getting used to, but the learning curve is pretty fast. I only wish for a few more features…I would like to easily be able to select multiple versions of the same chord within the same song without having to figure out a new naming convention, If I select an A chord it seems to replace all of the “A”’s in my song with that particular fingering. Sometimes I want to play the A on the 2nd fret, sometimes on the 5th, withing the same song and I cant figure out a way to include multiple versoons of the same chord in the same song without naming each one something different so it doesnt replace the previous versions with the newest one I have selected if that makes sense. But whatever, i can see that some hard work went into the app and I find it very useful. Thanks Gerald!
I've been using this app for several years, but stopped needing it as much during 2020 with lessons and performances being paused. When I came back to it a couple months ago I discovered the editing behavior to be completely buggy and nearly unusable. Having to wait a beat after an open bracket to type the chord name or the first letter of the following word hopped into the brackets instead of what I'd typed. And certain keystrokes are behaving like the enter button. I don't know when things went wrong, but I'm looking for a alternative now.
You've taken an indispensable part of my software arsenal that I've used to YEARS and rendered it nearly USELESS. The interface is incredibly slow and buggy. When I type too quickly for your text engine (apparently), other random letters appear instead. I try to backspace and the whole line moves backwards like a linux command line. It's a constant struggle with the interface to chart/edit even a simple song. I looked at the log file and it shows NOTHING but "2021/07/20 19:38:38:415 ChordPro Buddy V1.2.8 build 459 started..." Thanks awfully helpful. UPDATE: Thanks for the response. I realize my review is harsh but I had a wedding in a few hours and I got some last minute requests from the bride I needed to chart and I was pretty incensed with this issue. I ended up using a text editor after giving up on this siftware. Today (after the fact) I was able to roll back to an earlier version on my own. I'll change my review upwards when all this is resolved. This software has been amazing over the years. THIS update is broken. Also, as an aside, if I type Bb I MEAN Bb... NOT A#. Same with Eb and D#. The default behavior should be what I've typed, not to make me fix it.
I've been using ChordPro Buddy for some time now and it's the best program of it's type around! I can't find another program that fits my needs like it does. It's simple, direct and your able to customize it.
