Ticket to Ride - Train Game Reviews

    • Great fun, needs some enhancements

This is a great deal of fun and very true to the game. My wife and I play this a lot. A couple of visual enhancements would really help me: 1. Let me bring up my hand from the bottom of the board by long pressing my hand so I can see the cards clearly. 2. I am partially colorblind. When playing the actual board game I rely on the symbols from the cards to be visible on the routes on the board. That makes this very difficult for me. I’d like to be able to touch the route and see the color/symbol pop-up. Thanks for this great game.

    • No updates, don’t waste your money

We purchased years ago and loved this game. Then they stopped updates almost 2 years ago. Game is glitchy and crashes constantly. Hard to get through a game. Really disappointing. Don’t spend your money on something the company doesn’t even care about. I read all they care about now is their PlayStation platform.

    • New maps please!

Love this board game and the app, but I’d really like to see at least some of the newer boards being released too! Africa, New York, London, Amsterdam, San Francisco, Old West, Rails & Sails, etc

    • Good with minor flaws

The Good: If you’re a fan of the board game, this one really captures the look and feel of the real thing. The art is gorgeous. The interface is easy to use and fairly intuitive— tap and drag and drop— easy peasy. Solo play is a nice feature, although the opponent AIs quickly become fairly easy to defeat— though winning with ticket cards that require the cities in the middle of the board remains very hard to do, especially the low value routes. The ability to speed up play in the Settings options also makes the app great as a time killer when you only have a few minutes to spare. The flaws: Alas, you can’t choose your own player color (or at least I couldn’t figure out how to do so) or player image in solo play. Minor quibble, but sometimes you just get tired of being the Yellow Girl. Also, the game constantly reminds you that it’s your turn. Again, minor flaw, but it can get a little irritating. Of more concern is the app’s “reshuffle” mechanism for the Train Card deck. When the deck gets down to mostly Locomotive cards, this triggers the “reshuffle” when three or more Locomotives are placed face up— and the app continues to do this, even when it’s not possible to produce five face up cards that won’t include three or more Locomotives. It takes time, and it’s annoying to watch it “shuffle” a deck for which shuffling serves no purpose. Eventually it stops, but the app should be “smart” enough to realize there’s no way to shuffle five Locomotives and two train cars and come up with five face up cards that don’t include three Locomotives. But worse is what happens when you draw a single face up “normal” train car and only Locomotives remain, and there’s no longer a face down deck. In a real game, you’re stuck with the one card draw, and the next player goes. But in the app, the game basically freezes in place. You can’t draw a face up locomotive, you can’t draw from the deck (there isn’t one), you can’t give back the color card, and you can’t pass the game on to the next player. Instead the app just keeps reminding you to draw a second card when there’s no possible second card to draw! The only thing you can do is back out of the game and start a new one. I’ll call this one a “major quibble,” even though it will only happen on rare occasions. Finally, occasionally I’ve had the app crash when starting a new game— sometimes before hitting the board screen, sometimes when dealing out the initial cards. Clearing the open app and reopening it usually solves the problem in one go, but sometimes it will crash multiple times in a row— though fortunately never in mid game. Cleaning up these objections and improving the various “bot” players for smarter play (and a little less card-hoarding) would boost this review to 5 stars.

    • Good, Not Great

I love this board game, but this app gets annoying at times. - First, I don’t need you to stop the game and inform me every time somebody closes their app for a second to check something on their phone. Just switch them to a computer player and keep going. - Second, why don’t we know how many players are in a game until the game starts? - Lastly, put a shorter time limit on making moves. Players should have 20-30 seconds to use their turn or else they get switched to a computer player. If players are taking 1 minute + to make a move, I just close the game. I care nothing about what it does to my player ranking.
