LimeChat for Android

I just ugraded from 4.42 to 4.47, and it appear to have changed the prefs files, my server list reverted to what it was over a yeara go and all my passwords were gone. Thankfully I kept a copy of the old app, was able to launch it. It doesn't let you see your passwords though so got them out of my keychain. Not sure why 4.47 doesn't see them in my keychain. Keychain entries DO NOT provide server name, just a hash, leaving "server" as limechat, that's not helpful. But I was able to match them up. Please record server IP in keychain entries (in addition to hash as you are now) and also give me a check box I can tick to view the password in the app. Also fix your server migration code. Other issues (may be fixed in 4.47?) include slowdown as scrollbacks get bigger after weeks of being connected, and I've also caught it using over 40 gb of ran on a few occasions when it went loopy. Needs a way to throttle or stagger auto join, if you have too many channels auto connect the server may think you are fooding, I get 1/2 my channels triggering me to #overflow on freenode, have to join them one at a time manually after I login. Despite all that though, it's still the best IRC client I've found for the Android.

The user interface is a little weird. The menus don't entirely make sense. Putting the logs in a panel below the text entry bar is odd. None of the built-in styles is great. It looks like they're plain CSS/YAML, so if it bothered me enough I could probably make my own. You can change the text size easily, but it doesn't remember that when you quit. There's 100 preferences (in an overly complex preferences dialog) which do save, and most of them are weird things I can't imagine anyone ever wanting to do. Still, it's small and fast and perfectly reliable. It supports all the modern IRC features I use. It's even open-source! That's a great foundation. I wish all the apps I used got those basics right.

This app is so great. Amazingly stable and reliable. I have it running on my Android all the time and it never gives me a bit of trouble. Works every time. At first I thought it was strange how few updates there were to the app, but whoever coded this is just very good. I also use the iOS app. Also an amazing app. IRC is a system that’s been around a long time, and is still incredibly valuable. If you want help on a technical subject, and you don’t find anything googling support forum posts, this is the best bet. Just be prepared for the people and thicken your skin. :)

An update? Awesome! Best IRC client for a Android. Might be a more complex one out there, but this is hands down the best client. Reliable, lightweight, and user friendly. P.S - The others all use the LimeChat code to start with anyway!
