This game is challenging and plays quickly. The AI is pretty tough but can be beaten if you understand how they vary by degree of intelligence. Great game!!
I have had this game for 13 years and played it at least 30 times a year. And I can honestly say that it is worth every penny.
From computer players randomly getting 33 armies a turn five turns in a row, to the way the computer AI never attacks anyone but the player, to the “random” rolls universally going in favor of the AI players, this is terribly programmed. If you have five AI players, all five will attack you and ONLY you every single turn. They’ll have fourteen armies on a territory, you’ll have eleven, and on the other side there will be another AI player with two and they’ll attack YOU. The ONLY time the computer players attack each other is in the first three rounds of the game (even when they SHOULD attack you-- like they were programmed to ignore you at first, which is also bad AI design) or when one of them is in the way. Imagine a computer player with 12 armies in Australia, and another with two, while you are in India with 13 and instead of wiping out that player with two armies they attack you. It makes no sense and it is not fun to be ganged up on in every game. The “card” system is completely random, making it impossible to plan for reinforcements- they just show up when the computer players need them, and trickle in to the human player once in a while. On top of that, I am SICK of attacking with seven to one odds and losing, while the computer will attack you any time they have a slight numerical superiority (10:9, 13:11, 30:28) and will ALWAYS win, usually while only losing less than ten percent of their armies. It’s not uncommon for your victories to be pyrrhic at best: 5:1 odds and you MAY win, but have no units left. If the AI attacks you with the same numbers, he’ll have at least four armies left, every time. Additionally, I’ve reviewed this game SEVEN times and my reviews have all vanished. There is no way to get hold of the developer: his website has no email, and there is no contact info here. If this review is also deleted I will make a complaint to Google and demand a full refund. It is unethical to delete reviews. Make a better game if you can’t handle criticism.
fabulous fun
Best game ever, unless you flat out hate Risk. A couple hundred maps from the most simple to the maddeningly complex. AI is configurable so it can be as hard or easy as you like.
