The strat behind the game is pretty basic, the art work is refreshing, and the battle concept is simple, yet satisfying enough to keep you playing. Since the game was remastered I’ve been having nostalgic fun developing new combos and battling old foes. I recommend to anyone looking for a playful strategy game to keep for the years.
I’ve played this game for a decade. And the basis of the game is pretty fun. The most appealing part for me is the different combos and art for them, and in that regard, the remaster did well. Graphics on cards are better and it’s nice to see the background for stuff has been improved. That being said, there are some changes (or lack thereof) in this remaster that will make this a game I only occasionally check in on. Some more specific thoughts: Yes, as most people say, this game takes a LOT of grinding. Too much. In particular, I think the amount of dust needed for some upgrades, especially for diamond and onyx cards, is wayyy too much. Actually getting gold and onyx CC is long but not quite as bad; I have 4 onyx CC from saving gems and the heroic vault. But this system should not have been left untouched when moving from OG to remaster. I do hope this is addressed at some point. Next, once you beat the 2nd story world, there’s not much left but the arena. While I’m currently Masters 1, I don’t really have much motivation to grind out dust to get fusions, as that and more onyx CC is what separates higher levels for me so far. I’d hope for a 3rd world in the remaster, but so far no luck. In that regard, all that’s left for story mode is to grind out the mastery levels; however this gets tedious as below onyx it is their health pools, not their cards, that are the most challenging part of their fights. Something I actually don’t have much of a problem with is the packs for cards themselves. In the original game the packs would circulate, and if you saved your gems, you could actually afford them. Goblins give gems every time, and at the end of each season you get some as well. So, each month you could get, say, 2 packs. That being said, I believe these packs were 30 gems the past few years. 50 in the remaster is too much, and really does make it more of a paywall. And, since there’s not much left to do for me, why would I spend more money? This seems counter intuitive to me, as these packs are most beneficial to newer players. Ideally, you’d lower prices to encourage more play and speed up earlier progression. This would make the early grinding in story mode more bearable. Lastly, a more standard gamer complaint. Performance issues - laggy loading, especially with upgrading/recycling. A more minor observation, I also prefer the way the card physics in the OG behave in regard to going through them to up/recycle, edit deck etc. The new one feels rather sticky. I realize this is largely a negative review, but these are my honest thoughts about the game as it currently is. This game has a lot of potential and I’d like to see it get there. Props to the developers for actually making a remaster, to be honest I thought it had been abandoned. My favorite card is World Turtle. I love him. Thanks for reading.
Game is fun but the grind isn't rewarding enough. Research takes too long for little output. Establishing new cards into your deck could take days or even weeks before you get through enough research to make them viable. Also, PvP is a joke that has you fighting against AI-controlled player made decks. The bots aren't real-time players so it just feels like you're basically playing campaign anyway. Certain quality of life changes need to be made for this game to survive and compete in the modern gaming market. There are plenty of other games which reward players frequently enough that would make this game fall flat very quickly considering its repetitive and hardly rewarding gameplay. More prizes should be given out more frequently for less effort. This isn't 2012 anymore where players grind because there's nothing better to do. We're all playing multiple games, so you're gonna have to incentivize your players somehow.
Glad they remastered it the old one was very fun just wish the devs didn’t abandon it! Hope they keep up with this one.
You can’t merge almost anything unless you investigate it and take forever just 1 card. Meh
