I wrote another review right after purchase that said it's very good. After a week, I want to update that to extremely good. It's taken my character recognition and writing up several notches. For the price, it's unbeatable. Way better than other programs costing 3x as much.
I've been trying to teach myself Mandarin for the last year on and off. This year will be different! I absolutely love the way this app helps me with stroke order and understanding radicals. Very clean and responsive app!
The app does a great job of letting you search individual characters and a significant amount of info with each. For each character you get: 1) pinyin 2) alternate pronunciations 3) base deffinitions and the pronunciation with each of those definitions 4) stroke order 5) words that use that character 6) explinations of the radicals that make up the character All of this is extreemly useful for someone learing mandarin. My one complaint is that you cant look up "words". The tones on certain characters change depending on what word they are used in. For example, xi and huan are tone 3 and 1 respectivly when seperate, but together, huan is toneless. I can check these in each of the characters description because they give words made with the character, but this is time consuming. I understand that is not an "easy" thing to fix, but its something i really wish it had. Otherwise, good app, worth the money.
