Please fix issues with crashing…
I am so excited that Homeworld is now available in mobile. I have missed playing the game since my laptop died. This version is exactly as I remember the game being, even the music and sound effects. Well done on that! However…..there is one thing that is really starting to ruin my enjoyment of this masterpiece. IT KEEPS CRASHING. Please, fix the issue, and I’m sure you’ll get a higher overall rating.
Purchased one of the discounted packs, did not collect it right away, and have now spent 2 hours trying to find where to collect it again. Seems like a waste of money. Don’t think I’ll be spending any more on the game if this is a common issue. If you do, collect the purchase right away and do not click the X right next to the collect option like I did.
I’ve given this game a month and I couldn’t be less satisfied. All the many, many game-breaking bugs that persist aside, this is not… Homeworld. At all. What made Homeworlds 1 and 2 so memorable and enthralling was their flawlessly streamlined gameplay and their engaging and immersive storylines. They were both intimate experiences and awe-inspiring grand adventures. There was a real sense of danger to your ships - real consequences to your choices and chances - and the stakes continued to grow as you progressed. When you reached the end-game, whether it was against the Taiidan or the Vaygr, you felt like you’d earned it. They were, in short, amazing games. This is none of those things. Instead of getting a Homeworld-style game - which I feel would have translated oh so perfectly to a mobile device - we got a 2d grind fest with little variety and nothing to engage you. In fact, there are many features that seemed designed to break your immersion. The UI is unwieldy, over complicated, and frustrating from the start. The tutorials, which should be numerous and verbose, are clunky and confusing and don’t go nearly far enough toward teaching a new player what they need to know. I fumbled with every new mechanic for far too long to be immediately satisfied. Until today, a month in to playing. These items alone are pretty game-breaking. But then you throw the time-wasting sensor mechanics, pointless and poorly designed mining, bland and repetitive combat, awful ship and dogfighting AI, the bloated glut of nonsensical items and upgrades, and….well, just a slew of other glaring flaws and there’s really very little to like here. With the puzzling, amateurish design choices and the horde of bugs and broken features - including frequent crashes still - this is a beta release at best. Gearbox, you blew it. You have the rights to an amazing franchise, beloved by strategy gamers, and you wasted them on this. This is not worthy of the title of Homeworld by any stretch of the imagination. And it casts a lot of doubt on the quality of the forthcoming Homeworld 3. I really couldn’t be more disappointed that this is what you thought made a good addition to the Homeworld franchise. This is really not even a very good game by any name. I’m going to set this aside and watch the update cycles for signs of improvement but I’m not hopeful. Edited after November 2022 update - If they’ve addressed “many bugs” as the patch notes say then there were “many bugs” that I wasn’t experiencing. Nothing seems to have been fixed at all.
You need to be very quick with your actions because the game will crash within a minute. Update: yes it still crash
