With iFollow, I’m reminded of a football chant - “You don’t know what you’re doing… you don’t know what you’re doing!” If you pay for a service, you should be able to airplay games to your tv. Which was possible before, but not anymore. But what’s worse is the customer service. After my membership renewal did not automatically process at the original price ($178) due to an out-of-date credit card, the price went up ($225). Trying to discuss the details of this issue with the customer service team lead me to one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve ever had - every email in the thread would go to a different person, none of whom understood the issue or cared to resolve it, and responses were constantly different and filled with excuses and/or confusion. Which has resulted in me boycotting iFollow. After years of watching my team as a fan living across seas, I will now only watch the games available on ESPN+. It’s unfortunate iFollow’s unorganized and unprofessional team chose to lose a returning customer, rather than resolve an issue, and all for an app that got worse and doesn’t work for fans as it could/should.
Just all around a lazily developed app, they took the ability away from the club apps and added additional issues. The only good way to actually watch ifollow is to plug your laptop in to a HDMI port in your TV and use your browser. The ifollow app: Cut out audio if you try to do other things on your phone. Does not allow you to chrome cast/ screen share/ cast the game to your TV in anyway If you do screen share it’ll black out your screen (it’s 2021 people every tv is a smart TV) I will also add that as an overseas fan who has paid full price for ifollow since it’s inception in 2015, there have been slim to no improvements to the actual system during that time. If games are picked for sky then you lose any chance to watch live. I paid 180$ in 2020 and lost 6 games due to them being shown on sky. I know that’s not a fault of the service but in realistically that’s almost 30$ of streamed games that I completely missed out on. In 2019 I kept a log of 17 games through the season that had issues, I was promised five different refunds and a discount, i never was reimbursed anything. (I will admit so far in 2021 ifollow has a whole has been much better with actually in sync audio but I still don’t think there’s much investment in the system as a whole) As a loyal overseas Coventry City fan it’s a shame that ifollow has a complete monopoly on the market. Although I do appreciate being able to support my team from abroad, it would be nice to see them listening to users and feedback and implementing some changes.
As an overseas iFollow season ticket holder, everytime I open it forces me to try and reinstall, I can no longer listen to games on audio in the background, any other notifications I get on my phone cut the audio, and it decides 10 minutes after full time to stop most weeks. And yet 12 months on, nothing has been done to fix it.
Apps do this, remove features and create a pay wall to get to these same features.
I didn’t love having to move over to this app rather than my club specific one, but as long as it works, who cares, right? Well, it doesn’t work well at all. The app is very buggy, often making the rest of my Mobile freeze up - for example, if I want to adjust the volume, for some reason toggling it up and down doesn’t work when I’m in the app. That kind of lag is common, as are long loading times when the app starts up and when videos are starting, or when you’re toggling between settings like different audio channels (it takes forever to register your taps). I like following my team and am glad I have a way to do so, but this app is not well designed.
