Game is a bit of a stretch. It’s kind of like an interactive choose your own adventure that you can only make a few decisions at a time before it pauses you. I can’t explain it but I still have it downloaded and plan on finishing. On my 3rd commander now.
This game is story drive and events play out depending on your decisions. I’m not far into the game so I don’t know the kind of weight each decision has. I enjoy it because it’s a brief reprieve from my day to read a little bit about the men of the Nightwatch. My only gripe is I can’t zoom in on the map and the font sometimes is too tiny. If there was a way to adjust the font size or zoom the map that would be cool.

I rarely take the time to write a long review, but this game deserves it. I’m a sea of popping games with bright sound design, colors, and simple progression this game is a diamond in the rough. Visual design —- The visual design is minimal, sleek, and unique. I truly haven’t enjoyed a design so much since Gris released. It is creative and truly matches the pace and tone of the story. Sound design —— This is truly masterful! The soundtrack impacts at the right times, and soothes during low moments. It captures the feeling of the Nights Watch wonderfully without being overly cinematic. Game loop —- This is likely my favorite part. Though the pacing is slow and rewards small, you can easily pick it up for 5 minutes and be done until later on in the day. It reminds me of Cozy Grove, forcing you to pace yourself through the story which I absolutely love. It allows you to truly play on the go and think through your choices. Paired with the visual and sound design, it is like a portal into a mother world. Story and Game Design —- Absolutely brilliant. Wonderful, thoughtful, and compelling writing. Im not even a GOT fan and I absolutely love the chance to read these little, poetic novels. These days it’s so hard to find a text adventure game that truly delivers and this one does. It feels like a visual novel with aspects of rpg. The phrasing of the choices, as well as characteristics of your lord commander at the time, provide ample opportunity to weave tales. Pacing —- As I mentioned before, I actually like the pacing. Several others have said it is slow or boring, but I am a fan of games which use real time and force you to absorb the story before bounding through. It gives you something to chew on. Perhaps having more options so those that want to go ahead can while the rest of us ease through the story? Overall —- Big praise to the team that brought this game to life. I play everyday, multiple times a day, and have thoroughly enjoyed weaving the story. Thank you for keeping the app development world fresh and interesting. It is rare to find something so unique and enjoyable. In the midst of criticism, don’t lose what you have created. It’s thoughtful, interesting, creative, and unique. Thank you for such a wonderful story!
Firstly I’d like to say… it’s not for everyone. It is very slow paced and has little game to it… but I really like it. If you are a person who can sit down and read a book for a good amount of time then you may be more likely to enjoy this for what it is. I also find it is a great way to calm down after a prolonged session of doom scrolling. To get to the point… the way I was able to continue enjoying it was by giving each commander a different motive. In other words choosing answers that I really thought fitted them best even with the knowledge that my choice was maybe not the best one… and seeing the consequences to my actions… Lastly, a note to the devs: could you please stress the character dispositions a little bit more? When I am making decisions I will occasionally get an option related to their trait… but mostly I feel that it does not largely effect the game. Otherwise it tells a beautiful and sometimes unsettling story and is worth being given a try. (Love the music!)
