We live in a rural area, and we do lots of hiking and camping. We regularly stumble upon different kinds of snakes. Love having this community to rely on to help with snake IDs. Helpful and friendly sharing with lots of good info.
My German Shepard found a small snake in my garage. I was able to humanely capture the snake and placed it in a small plastic container. I took a picture and sent the image via the app to Snake Snap for identification. Snake Snap responded within 15 minutes and stated it was a harmless (Non-Venomous) DeKay's Brown Snake. I immediately released the brown snake into my yard. I have used Snake Snap several times when I lived in Southern California. Now that I live in Oklahoma Snake Snap has saved me numerous times with all the different types of new snakes I have encountered. I have five horses and five dogs and I appreciate the quick response to ensure the safety of my animals and of course my family. Best $10.00 I spent for an app!
So I’m incredibly disappointed in this app because I was charged a flat rate for this app and then they decided to change it from a flat download fee (several dollars) to a ‘subscription’ setup and free download. So even though I already paid, I get the privilege of paying AGAIN to actually use it?! No.
Around noon I submitted a photo to Snake Snap of the snake my cat brought to the front porch. I received the ID of the snake along with an elucidating paragraph WITHIN THE HOUR!
